What is a SPT - Allergy Test Test in Amritsar ?
What is SPT - Allergy Test?
The SPT (skin prick test) checks whether your skin reacts to specific allergens. Small drops of common allergen extracts are placed on the forearm or back. Physical examination provides clues; a test result removes ambiguity and allows targeted, evidence-based management to begin promptly.
What does SPT - Allergy Test measure?
The skin is gently pricked so the substance touches the top layer. A raised, itchy bump (wheal) within 15-20 minutes suggests an immediate allergic response. This shows an IgE‑mediated sensitivity. The test helps identify triggers for hay fever, asthma, eczema, food reactions, and insect venom allergies.
What symptoms suggest SPT - Allergy Test may be needed?
SPT - Allergy Test is generally requested as part of a allergy assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports hives or skin rash, nasal congestion, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, asthma symptoms triggered by specific exposures, and digestive symptoms after eating specific foods. Whether SPT - Allergy Test specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. GetVisit makes testing convenient in Amritsar, with partner-lab slots and home collection offered in many areas including Golden Avenue and Tarn Taran Road.
How is SPT - Allergy Test performed?
A trained professional collects the required sample (swab, sputum, or fluid) at a GetVisit collection centre in Golden Avenue or Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar using sterile technique. The sample is barcoded and transported to the NABL lab, and your digital report follows in the GetVisit app once results are authorised.
How accurate is SPT - Allergy Test?
Samples collected in Golden Avenue or Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar are processed at NABL-accredited labs using validated methods and internal quality control. Accuracy depends on correct collection technique by a trained professional, which GetVisit's partnered centres follow. Reports are accepted by hospitals, specialists, and insurers across India.
Are there any risks to SPT - Allergy Test?
Risk is minimal. Swab, sputum, or fluid collection by a trained professional in Golden Avenue or Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar may cause brief, mild discomfort but no lasting effects. Any specific precaution for your test will be explained at the collection centre.

Why Take a SPT - Allergy Test Test in Amritsar ?
When does a doctor order SPT - Allergy Test?
SPT - Allergy Test is often used in an allergy workup or respiratory/allergy panel to find what triggers symptoms. Doctors order it when patients have sneezing, itchy eyes, hives, eczema flares, wheeze, or suspected food reactions.
Who should get SPT - Allergy Test done in Amritsar?
Amritsar's trade and tourism economy, ghee- and dairy-rich Punjabi diet driving high diabetes and cardiovascular prevalence, winter air pollution, and seasonal monsoon infections make regular preventive testing important citywide. Those who benefit most from SPT - Allergy Test include patients whose triggers are unclear despite avoidance, and those being considered for immunotherapy. Identifying the allergen in Amritsar makes avoidance and treatment far more effective.
What conditions can SPT - Allergy Test help diagnose?
It helps diagnose allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, food or venom allergies, and guides treatment like avoidance or immunotherapy. Recent antihistamine use or active skin disease can cause false negatives, and a family history of allergies makes testing more important.
What do SPT - Allergy Test results mean?
Higher or positive results: SPT positive means a skin prick test produces an immediate wheal-and-flare reaction to a specific allergen, usually a wheal at least 3 mm larger than the negative control. Your doctor reads the value against the reference range on your report and your symptoms, and may repeat a borderline result to confirm it.
How often should SPT - Allergy Test be repeated?
For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends, typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.
What happens after your SPT - Allergy Test results are ready?
After the lab authorises your results, the report is uploaded to your GetVisit account and saved for future comparison. If anything falls outside the expected range, your doctor can advise whether it needs a repeat test, a lifestyle change, or a specialist opinion.
