Sm/RNP Antibody

A positive Sm/RNP antibody test indicates the immune system is making autoantibodies against nuclear proteins, often seen in connective tissue autoimmune diseases. Anti‑Sm is highly specific for systemic lupus erythematosus; anti‑RNP is associated with mixed connective tissue disease and can occur in lupus or scleroderma. Clinical correlation and rheumatology evaluation with further tests are usually needed.

High‑titer anti‑U1 RNP (RNP) antibodies are characteristic of mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and are often used as a diagnostic marker.
