What does a high Roma score mean?

A high ROMA score indicates an increased probability of epithelial ovarian malignancy. It’s calculated from blood markers (HE4 and CA125) plus menopausal status. A high result usually prompts further evaluation—imaging and referral to a gynecologic oncologist—but is not diagnostic by itself. Clinical assessment and additional tests are needed to confirm or exclude cancer.

What is the Roma scale?

The ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) scale combines blood levels of CA‑125 and HE4 with menopausal status to estimate a woman’s likelihood of having epithelial ovarian cancer. It yields a numeric risk score used to classify patients as low- or high-risk preoperatively and helps guide referral and management. It is an adjunct to imaging and clinical assessment, not a definitive diagnostic test.

What is a ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM Test in Gurugram ?

What is ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM?

The ROMA Index measures two blood proteins, CA-125 and HE4, and combines them with menopausal status to estimate the chance an ovarian mass is cancerous. These markers can rise when ovarian cancer or other pelvic conditions are present.

What does ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM measure?

The score helps doctors decide who needs faster referral to a specialist and who may have lower risk. ROMA is not a definitive diagnosis. It is used together with ultrasound, physical exam, and symptoms to guide decisions about surgery, further testing, or monitoring. Results are one piece of the clinical picture and must be interpreted in context.

What symptoms suggest ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM may be needed?

A doctor may recommend ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM when a patient reports unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, a lump under the skin, changes in bowel or bladder habits, unexplained pain, abnormal bleeding, persistent cough, or difficulty swallowing. GetVisit makes testing convenient in Gurugram, with lab slots and home collection in DLF Phase 3, South City, and nearby areas.

How is ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM performed?

Whether you visit a walk-in lab in DLF Phase 3 or book home collection in South City, Gurugram, the process is the same. A trained phlebotomist performs a brief, sterile venipuncture, barcodes the sample for tracking, and dispatches it to the NABL lab. Your digital report is available in the GetVisit app the same day for most blood tests.

How accurate is ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM?

Results are analytically reliable because GetVisit's Gurugram logistics network maintains proper cold-chain transport from your DLF Phase 3 or South City collection point to the processing lab, preserving sample integrity. NABL independently audits quality control at regular intervals.

Are there any risks to ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM?

There are no significant risks beyond those of a standard blood draw. For your appointment in DLF Phase 3 or South City, Gurugram, drink 2 to 3 glasses of water beforehand and stay seated for 2 to 3 minutes afterwards, as vasovagal fainting (rare) is more likely if you are fasting, anxious, or dehydrated. Tell the phlebotomist if you have fainted during previous draws.

Why Take a ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM Test in Gurugram ?

When does a doctor order ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM?

ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM is usually used in the workup of a pelvic mass or suspected ovarian tumor. Doctors may order it when a woman has pelvic pain, bloating, abdominal swelling, or unexplained changes in menstrual or pelvic symptoms.

Who should get ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM done in Gurugram?

Gurugram's dense corporate population, severe NCR air pollution, high diabetes and cardiovascular burden, extreme seasonal temperatures, and monsoon infection risk make regular preventive diagnostic testing an essential health investment for residents across the city. Those who benefit most from ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM include higher-risk individuals in structured screening and patients already diagnosed who need trend monitoring. Results in Gurugram should always be interpreted by an oncologist rather than in isolation.

What conditions can ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM help diagnose?

It helps distinguish likely benign from possibly malignant masses. Abnormal results can come from ovarian cancer, but also from benign cysts, endometriosis, inflammation, or certain physiological states. A family history of ovarian or breast cancer makes this test more important.

What do ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM results mean?

Higher or positive results: A high ROMA score indicates an increased probability of epithelial ovarian malignancy. Your doctor reads the value against the reference range on your report and your symptoms, and may repeat a borderline result to confirm it.

How often should ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM be repeated?

For screening in higher-risk individuals: at the interval recommended for that specific cancer. For patients under treatment or in remission: on the schedule set by the oncologist, often every few months, to track the marker's trend rather than any single value.

What happens after ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM results are ready?

After the lab authorises your results, the report is uploaded to your GetVisit account and saved for future comparison. If anything falls outside the expected range, your doctor can advise whether it needs a repeat test, a lifestyle change, or a specialist opinion.

What is the Roma score for ovarian malignancy risk algorithm?

ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) combines serum HE4 and CA125 levels with menopausal status to estimate the probability of epithelial ovarian cancer. It uses logistic regression: premenopausal PI = −12.0 + 2.38·ln(HE4) + 0.0626·ln(CA125); postmenopausal PI = −8.09 + 1.04·ln(HE4) + 0.732·ln(CA125). ROMA% = exp(PI)/(1+exp(PI))×100; cutoffs: ≥11.4% (pre), ≥29.9% (post) indicate high risk.

What is the Roca algorithm for ovarian cancer?

ROCA (Risk of Ovarian Cancer Algorithm) is a statistical model that interprets serial CA‑125 blood levels over time to detect patterns suggestive of ovarian cancer. Using age and a Bayesian change‑point approach, it estimates individualized risk and classifies results to prompt repeat testing, transvaginal ultrasound, or specialist referral. It can identify rising trends earlier than a single cutoff, but isn’t endorsed for routine population screening.

How to calculate Roma score?

ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) uses serum HE4 and CA125 plus menopausal status. Compute the predictive index (PI): premenopausal PI = -12.0 + 2.38 × ln(HE4) + 0.0626 × ln(CA125); postmenopausal PI = -8.09 + 1.04 × ln(HE4) + 0.732 × ln(CA125). Convert to ROMA% = exp(PI)/(1+exp(PI)) × 100. Cutoffs: ≥11.4% (premenopausal) or ≥29.9% (postmenopausal) indicate high risk.

How to calculate risk of malignancy index in ovarian cancer?

RMI is calculated as RMI = U × M × CA125. Ultrasound score (U): 0 for no suspicious features, 1 for one feature, 3 for two or more (features: multilocularity, solid areas, bilaterality, ascites, metastases). Menopausal status (M): 1 if premenopausal, 3 if postmenopausal. Multiply by serum CA125 (U/ml); RMI ≥200 commonly indicates high malignancy risk.

Can I drink coffee or tea before ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM?

If ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM needs fasting, avoid tea and coffee (even without sugar) during the fasting window, as they can affect some results; plain water is fine. If no fasting is required, your usual drinks are okay.

Can I take my diabetes medication before ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM?

If you take insulin or diabetes tablets and are fasting for ROMA Index - OVARIAN MALIGNANCY RISK ALGORITHM, ask your doctor whether to delay the dose until after the sample is collected, to avoid a low-sugar episode.
