PLAIN TTG (TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE TEST), in Vasai Virar

If tTG (tissue transglutaminase antibody) is positive, it strongly suggests celiac disease. Your clinician will check total IgA, confirm results (often with duodenal biopsy or HLA testing), and refer to a gastroenterologist. Do not start a gluten‑free diet before confirmation, as this can affect testing. Follow‑up includes nutritional assessment, monitoring for complications, and long‑term management with a dietitian.

The cost of a tTG (tissue transglutaminase antibody) test varies widely. In the U.S. private labs typically charge about $30–$200 out-of-pocket. In India prices commonly range ₹300–₹1,200. In the UK the test is provided free on the NHS for eligible patients, while private clinics may charge around £20–£80. Prices depend on location, lab, and insurance coverage.

A tissue transglutaminase (tTG) blood test detects antibodies against tTG, primarily to screen for and help diagnose celiac disease. It’s ordered for people with symptoms (diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, bloating) or at‑risk groups (first‑degree relatives, other autoimmune disease). An IgA tTG test is standard; IgG testing is used if IgA deficiency. It can also monitor response to a gluten‑free diet.

A normal (negative) anti‑tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgA is usually below the laboratory reference cut‑off — commonly <7–20 U/mL depending on the assay. Values within the lab’s reference range are considered normal; borderline or low‑positive results may prompt repeat testing. If total IgA is low, tTG IgG testing is recommended. Always interpret results with your clinician.

Early warning signs of celiac disease include persistent diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, bloating and excess gas, unexplained weight loss or poor growth in children, iron‑deficiency anemia with fatigue, mouth ulcers, and an itchy blistering skin rash (dermatitis herpetiformis). Some people also experience bone or joint pain, numbness/tingling, delayed puberty, or unexplained infertility. Symptoms can be subtle and vary widely.

If the tTG test is negative but symptoms or suspicion remain, your clinician may check total IgA (to rule out IgA deficiency), order DGP antibodies, HLA DQ2/DQ8 typing, or recommend an endoscopic small‑bowel biopsy. Repeat testing while on a gluten-containing diet or referral to a gastroenterologist may be advised, since celiac can be seronegative or other conditions may explain symptoms.
