What is a PFT with DLCO Test in Chandigarh ?
What is PFT with DLCO?
PFT with DLCO measures how well your lungs move air and transfer oxygen into blood. The tests record airflow, lung volumes, and how easily gases cross from air sacs into the bloodstream. Physical examination provides clues; a test result removes ambiguity and allows targeted, evidence-based management to begin promptly.
What does PFT with DLCO measure?
DLCO specifically checks the lung’s gas transfer ability by using a tiny amount of carbon monoxide for measurement. These measures matter because they show how efficiently your lungs work and help explain symptoms like shortness of breath or chronic cough. Doctors use PFT with DLCO to diagnose and monitor conditions such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary vascular disease. It also helps assess surgical risk and track response to treatment over time.
What symptoms suggest PFT with DLCO may be needed?
PFT with DLCO is ordered when your doctor needs objective laboratory data, either to follow up a symptom, check a previous result, or complete a routine assessment. Your doctor will advise whether it is the right test for your situation. In Chandigarh, you can book this test online and check whether home collection reaches Sector 21, Sector 9 or your address.
How is PFT with DLCO performed?
A trained professional collects the required sample (swab, sputum, or fluid) at a GetVisit collection centre in Sector 21 or Sector 9, Chandigarh using sterile technique. The sample is barcoded and transported to the NABL lab, and your digital report follows in the GetVisit app once results are authorised.
How accurate is PFT with DLCO?
Samples collected in Sector 21 or Sector 9, Chandigarh are processed at NABL-accredited labs using validated methods and internal quality control. Accuracy depends on correct collection technique by a trained professional, which GetVisit's partnered centres follow. Reports are accepted by hospitals, specialists, and insurers across India.
Are there any risks to PFT with DLCO?
Risk is minimal. Swab, sputum, or fluid collection by a trained professional in Sector 21 or Sector 9, Chandigarh may cause brief, mild discomfort but no lasting effects. Any specific precaution for your test will be explained at the collection centre.

A PFT with DLCO is a set of pulmonary function tests that measures airflow, lung volumes and how well gases transfer from air sacs into blood.

Why Take a PFT with DLCO Test in Chandigarh ?
When does a doctor order PFT with DLCO?
PFT with DLCO is part of a pulmonary function testing panel used when patients have breathlessness, chronic cough, wheeze, or reduced exercise tolerance. It helps diagnose and monitor asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary vascular problems, and it is used for preoperative lung risk assessment.
Who should get PFT with DLCO done in Chandigarh?
Chandigarh's administrative, education and IT workforce, rich regional diet driving high diabetes and cardiovascular prevalence, winter air pollution, and large student population make regular preventive testing worthwhile citywide. Genetic testing benefits people with a family history of an inherited condition, couples planning a pregnancy, and patients whose symptoms suggest a genetic cause. GetVisit coordinates sample collection for residents of Sector 21, Sector 9, and across Chandigarh, with results guiding specialist and family decisions.
What conditions can PFT with DLCO help diagnose?
The conditions diagnosable through PFT with DLCO depend on the specific markers the test measures. Results either confirm a suspected diagnosis, support a clinical suspicion requiring further investigation, or effectively exclude the condition the test was screening for. Abnormal results can come from smoking, infections, scarring, emphysema, anemia, or certain medications. A family history of lung disease may prompt earlier or repeat testing to monitor lung health.
What do PFT with DLCO results mean?
Higher or positive results: A high DLCO means the lungs transfer more carbon monoxide than expected, suggesting increased pulmonary capillary blood volume, higher hemoglobin, or enhanced alveolar-capillary conductance. Lower or negative results: DLCO is typically reduced in COPD, especially when emphysema predominates, because alveolar wall destruction and loss of pulmonary capillary bed impair gas diffusion. Your doctor reads the value against the reference range on your report and your symptoms, and may repeat a borderline result to confirm it.
How often should PFT with DLCO be repeated?
For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends, typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.
What happens after your PFT with DLCO results are ready?
You will be notified as soon as the laboratory releases your results, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Open the report in the GetVisit app to see each value beside its reference range, share it with your doctor in a tap, or book a specialist consultation to talk it through.
