When does a doctor order PFT ( Pulmonary Function Test )?

PFT ( Pulmonary Function Test ) is part of a respiratory function panel used when you have shortness of breath, chronic cough, wheeze, or to monitor known lung disease. Doctors order it to diagnose asthma, COPD, restrictive lung disease, and to track treatment response.

Who should get Pulmonary Function Test done in Jamshedpur?

Jamshedpur's steel and automotive workforce, rotational shift patterns, industrial air quality, rising diabetes prevalence, and monsoon infection season make regular preventive diagnostic testing a sound habit citywide. Genetic testing benefits people with a family history of an inherited condition, couples planning a pregnancy, and patients whose symptoms suggest a genetic cause. GetVisit coordinates sample collection for residents of Karandih, Chhota Govindpur, and across Jamshedpur, with results guiding specialist and family decisions.

What conditions can Pulmonary Function Test help diagnose?

The conditions diagnosable through Pulmonary Function Test depend on the specific markers the test measures. Results either confirm a suspected diagnosis, support a clinical suspicion requiring further investigation, or effectively exclude the condition the test was screening for. Abnormal results can come from smoking, infections, scarring, allergies, occupational exposures, or certain medications. A family history of lung disease or repeated breathing problems may make testing important.

What do Pulmonary Function Test results mean?

Results are interpreted in context, not in isolation. GetVisit shows your measured value next to the laboratory reference range, and your doctor reads it together with your clinical picture and any earlier results. See the FAQs below for what typical high or low values can mean for this test.

How often should Pulmonary Function Test be repeated?

For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends, typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.

What happens after your Pulmonary Function Test results are ready?

You will be notified as soon as the laboratory releases your results, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Open the report in the GetVisit app to see each value beside its reference range, share it with your doctor in a tap, or book a specialist consultation to talk it through.
