OPTIMAL TEST

The OptiMAL test is a rapid point‑of‑care diagnostic for malaria that detects parasite lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) in a small blood sample (finger‑prick). It uses monoclonal antibodies to differentiate Plasmodium falciparum from non‑falciparum infections and gives results in about 15–20 minutes. It’s useful where microscopy isn’t available, but sensitivity may fall at low parasite densities, so negatives may need repeat testing.

The OptiMAL test is a rapid point‑of‑care diagnostic for malaria that detects parasite lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH). It distinguishes Plasmodium falciparum from non‑falciparum species using a finger‑prick or venous blood sample and gives results in about 15–20 minutes. It’s used to confirm malaria in symptomatic patients and can help monitor treatment response because pLDH indicates viable parasites.

An OptiMAL blood test is a rapid immunochromatographic test that detects Plasmodium-specific lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) in a finger-prick blood sample to diagnose malaria. It gives results in about 15–20 minutes, can help distinguish P. falciparum from non-falciparum infections, and aids immediate treatment decisions where microscopy is unavailable. Sensitivity varies, so negative results may need confirmatory testing.

OptiMAL is a rapid diagnostic test that detects parasite lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) from all human malaria species and differentiates Plasmodium falciparum from non‑falciparum infections (P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae). It's used on finger‑prick or venous blood. Sensitivity falls at low parasite densities (commonly below ~100 parasites/µL), so microscopy or PCR may be needed for very low parasitaemia.

Optimal results mean a laboratory or clinical measurement falls within the established healthy range for your age, sex and condition, indicating normal function and lower immediate risk. They reflect comparison against reference intervals and clinical guidelines, but do not guarantee absence of disease. Interpretation depends on individual factors, testing timing, and lab methods; discuss results with your clinician for personalized advice and follow-up if needed.

There is no single "best" test; choose one that matches the clinical question and timing. PCR (molecular) tests offer highest sensitivity for active infections, antigen tests are faster for screening, and antibody tests detect past exposure. For noninfectious conditions, pick targeted blood panels or imaging based on symptoms. Consider sensitivity, specificity, timing, availability, cost and confirmatory testing.
