Nasal Swab For H1N1

A nasal swab test for H1N1 collects mucus from the nose or nasopharynx using a sterile swab to detect influenza A (H1N1) virus. Wash hands and open the sterile swab without touching the tip. Tilt head back slightly. Gently insert the swab about 2 cm (≈1 inch) into one nostril until resistance is felt, not painful. Rotate against the nasal wall for 10–15 seconds (at least five rotations). Repeat in the other nostril with the same swab. Place swab in the tube, seal, label, wash hands, and follow kit instructions.
