MRI Scan Liver Multiple Phase

Multi-phase MRI is an imaging technique that acquires scans at several timed intervals before and after contrast injection (for example arterial, portal-venous and delayed phases). By capturing how tissues enhance over time, it improves detection and characterization of lesions—particularly in the liver—assesses blood flow, tumor vascularity and staging. It’s noninvasive, uses gadolinium contrast, and usually requires breath-holds.

An MRI liver multiscan is a non-invasive MRI protocol that provides quantitative maps of liver fat, iron and tissue characteristics. Using specialized sequences (PDFF, T2*, and cT1 or MR elastography), it detects and stages steatosis, iron overload, inflammation and fibrosis without biopsy. Results help guide diagnosis, monitor disease progression or treatment response, and reduce need for invasive sampling.

A triple-phase liver MRI is a contrast-enhanced imaging study that acquires images during three timed phases—arterial, portal-venous and delayed—after intravenous gadolinium. These phases highlight different blood-supply patterns, improving detection and characterization of focal liver lesions (e.g., hepatocellular carcinoma), assessing vascularity and treatment response, and guiding surgical or interventional planning. Non-contrast sequences are also obtained for full assessment.

Multiple liver lesions can be benign (cysts, hemangiomas, focal nodular hyperplasia) or malignant (metastases from other cancers, primary liver cancer). They can also reflect infections (abscesses) or inflammatory granulomas. Imaging features, blood tests (liver function, tumor markers) and sometimes biopsy are needed to identify the cause. A multi-parametric MRI (mpMRI) combines several MRI techniques—high-resolution T2-weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging and dynamic contrast-enhanced sequences (sometimes spectroscopy)—to provide both anatomical and functional information. It’s mainly used for prostate assessment to detect, localize and stage cancer, guide targeted biopsies, and monitor treatment or active surveillance, improving accuracy over standard MRI.

A four‑phase liver CT is a multiphasic scan acquiring images before contrast and during arterial, portal‑venous, and delayed phases after intravenous contrast. Different timing reveals enhancement patterns to detect and characterize liver lesions (HCC, metastases), evaluate vascular anatomy and tumor blood supply, and guide treatment planning. It uses ionizing radiation and iodinated contrast, with small risks of allergy or kidney effects.
