MRI SCAN CERVICO DORSAL SPINE

A dorsal spine MRI is a magnetic resonance imaging scan of the thoracic (dorsal) portion of the spine. It produces detailed images of vertebrae, discs, spinal cord and surrounding soft tissues to detect causes of pain, injury, infection, degenerative disease, nerve compression or tumors. The non‑ionizing test usually takes 20–60 minutes; metal objects are removed and contrast dye may be used.

An MRI of the cervical spine visualizes vertebrae, intervertebral discs, spinal cord and nerve roots, plus surrounding ligaments and soft tissues. It detects disc herniation, spinal stenosis, nerve or spinal cord compression and signal changes, inflammation, infection, tumours, bone‑marrow abnormalities and post‑operative changes. It’s especially useful for assessing soft‑tissue and neural causes of neck pain, numbness or weakness and guiding treatment.

The cervico-dorsal spine refers to the junction between the cervical (neck) and dorsal/thoracic (upper back) regions of the spine, typically around C7–T1. It supports the head, enables neck and upper-back movement, and protects the spinal cord and nerve roots. Its vertebrae, discs, ligaments, and muscles are common sources of stiffness, pain, and nerve-related symptoms when injured or degenerated.

A dorsal (thoracic) spine MRI typically takes about 20–45 minutes. Total appointment time may be longer, often 30–60 minutes, depending on how many image sequences are needed, whether contrast (gadolinium) is used, the scanner type (open versus closed), and patient factors such as movement or need for positioning. Allow extra time for registration and post-scan checks.

"Dorsal spine" refers to the part of the vertebral column on the back side of the body — in common medical usage it usually means the thoracic (mid‑back) region. It comprises the thoracic vertebrae and their spinous processes, supports the ribcage, carries upper‑body weight, and protects the spinal cord. It can also denote the dorsal (back) aspect of the spinal cord.

Spine MRI can detect structural causes of nerve problems — herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors, inflammation, and nerve-root compression or swelling — and may show nerve edema on specific sequences or with contrast. It does not directly measure nerve function or microscopic axonal damage; electrodiagnostic tests (EMG/NCS) are needed to assess functional or physiological nerve injury and recovery.
