MRI CERVICAL AND LUMBAR SPINE, in Pimpri Chinchwad

A non-contrast cervical spine MRI usually takes about 15–30 minutes; a lumbar spine MRI typically takes about 20–45 minutes. Total appointment time (registration, positioning and instructions) can extend to 30–60 minutes. If contrast (gadolinium) is required, add roughly 10–20 minutes for injection and extra imaging. Exact times vary by scanner, sequences and clinic workflow.

A cervical and lumbar MRI visualizes the neck and lower back structures, showing spinal vertebrae, intervertebral discs, spinal cord/cauda equina, nerve roots, ligaments and surrounding soft tissues. It detects disc bulges or herniations, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, nerve compression, spinal cord injury, inflammation, infections, tumors, fractures, and post‑operative changes, helping guide diagnosis and treatment planning.

The cost of a cervical spine MRI varies widely by country and care setting. In the U.S., private-pay prices often range roughly $400–$3,000 (sometimes higher). Scans through public health services are typically free or low-cost, while private scans in the UK may run £200–£700. In India, typical private rates are about ₹2,000–₹10,000. Final cost depends on contrast use, facility, and insurance.

A neurologist orders a cervical spine MRI to evaluate the spinal cord and nerve roots when patients have neck pain, arm pain or numbness (radiculopathy), weakness, gait disturbance or signs of myelopathy. MRI detects disc herniation, spinal stenosis, tumors, infection, inflammation (including demyelinating disease), trauma and congenital anomalies, and it helps guide surgical planning or monitor known pathology.

Yes — you can usually sleep during an MRI if you can lie very still, but it can be hard because scanners are loud. Ear protection and headphones are provided. For some studies you must follow breathing or movement instructions, so sleeping isn’t allowed. If you’re anxious or need sedation, tell staff beforehand; alternatives like open MRI or mild sedatives can be arranged.

Spine MRI can detect structural causes of nerve injury—disc herniation, spinal stenosis, foraminal narrowing, nerve-root compression, inflammation or edema—and visualize nerve roots and surrounding tissues. However, MRI cannot reliably show microscopic or functional nerve-fiber damage; it may miss early or purely functional neuropathies. Electrophysiological tests (EMG/NCS), clinical examination, or specialized MR neurography may be needed for definitive assessment and symptom correlation.
