What is a MIBG Scan Test in Thane ?
What is MIBG Scan?
A MIBG scan uses a small amount of a radioactive drug called MIBG to see how certain nerve-related and hormone-producing cells take up that tracer. It shows where neuroendocrine cells or sympathetic nerves are active in the body.
What does MIBG Scan show?
This is important because many tumors of the adrenal glands and related nerves concentrate MIBG. Doctors use the scan to find, stage, and follow tumors such as pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, and neuroblastoma. It can also show nerve activity in the heart. Results help guide surgery, targeted radiotherapy, and ongoing monitoring of disease or treatment response.
What symptoms suggest MIBG Scan may be needed?
A doctor may recommend MIBG Scan when a patient reports localised pain, swelling, or injury, a lump or restricted movement, or an abnormal finding on an earlier test that needs to be examined directly. Sample collection for Thane is available at labs and at home across Majiwada, Hiranandani Estate, and surrounding neighbourhoods.
How is MIBG Scan done?
No needle or sample is involved. At an accredited imaging centre serving Majiwada and Hiranandani Estate, Thane, a radiographer performs the scan, which is painless and usually completed within 10 to 15 minutes. A qualified radiologist interprets the images and issues a report you can access on GetVisit. (Home collection does not apply to imaging.)
How accurate is MIBG Scan?
GetVisit partners only with accredited imaging centres in and around Majiwada, Hiranandani Estate, and Thane that use maintained, calibrated equipment and qualified radiographers. Every scan is interpreted by a qualified radiologist, and reports are accepted by hospital networks, specialists, and insurers across India.
Are there any risks to MIBG Scan?
A standard X-ray uses a very low dose of radiation considered safe for diagnostic use; ultrasound uses sound waves and involves no radiation at all. If you are or might be pregnant, tell the centre in Majiwada or Hiranandani Estate, Thane beforehand so the safest approach can be chosen. There is no needle and no recovery time.
Did you know?
A typical MIBG scan involves injection of a radioactive tracer followed by one or more imaging sessions.

Most imaging scans need no fasting. Some abdominal ultrasounds require a few hours of fasting or a full bladder, so follow the specific instruction shown when you book, or ask the centre.

Why Take a MIBG Scan Test in Thane ?
When does a doctor order MIBG Scan?
MIBG Scan is a nuclear medicine imaging study often ordered when neuroendocrine tumors are suspected. It is used when symptoms like unexplained high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, headaches, or an abdominal mass appear, and when doctors need to locate, stage, or follow tumors such as pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, or neuroblastoma.
Who should get MIBG Scan done in Thane?
Thane's fast-growing population, monsoon flooding driving leptospirosis and dengue in Mumbra, Kalwa, and Diva, heavy commute and stress burden, and rising diabetes and cardiovascular rates make regular preventive diagnostic testing an essential health investment for residents across the city. Those who benefit most from MIBG Scan include patients needing structural assessment that bloodwork cannot provide, and anyone under surveillance for a previously detected abnormality in Thane.
What can MIBG Scan help detect?
Abnormal results come from tumor uptake or from interfering medications and prior iodine exposure. A family history of inherited neuroendocrine tumors may make this scan especially important.
What do MIBG Scan results mean?
An imaging report describes what the scan shows and whether it is normal or reveals a specific finding. A qualified radiologist interprets the images, and your doctor explains what any finding means for you and whether a further test or treatment is needed. The FAQs below cover what this scan can and cannot show.
How often should MIBG Scan be repeated?
For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends , typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.
What happens after MIBG Scan results are ready?
Book a follow-up consultation after reviewing your results. GetVisit stores your reports alongside your previous test history, so your doctor sees your full health trend, not just today's snapshot. This longitudinal context significantly improves the clinical value of each repeat test.
