MAVRIC MRI (Multi-Acquisition Variable-Resonance Image Combination) is an MRI technique that reduces metal-induced artifacts around implants by acquiring multiple frequency-shifted image sets and combining them. It improves visualization of bone, soft tissue and peri‑prosthetic complications near joint replacements or hardware by minimizing distortion, signal voids and susceptibility effects, aiding accurate diagnosis and postoperative assessment.

There are three common MRI types: structural (conventional/anatomical) MRI — provides detailed images of tissues and organs; functional MRI (fMRI) — measures brain activity by detecting blood‑flow changes; and MR angiography (MRA) — visualizes blood vessels to detect blockages or aneurysms. 7‑tesla MRI scanners are very limited in India and found only at a few advanced research institutes and tertiary hospitals in major metropolitan areas (e.g., Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad). They’re primarily used for research or specialist referrals rather than routine clinical imaging. Access typically requires referral, prior approval, and scheduling through the hosting institution’s radiology or neurology department.

Multi-modal MRI combines different magnetic resonance techniques—such as structural MRI, functional MRI (BOLD), diffusion imaging (DTI), and perfusion sequences—to provide complementary information on anatomy, function, connectivity, and tissue microstructure. By integrating multiple contrasts noninvasively, it enhances detection, characterization, and monitoring of neurologic and psychiatric conditions, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning, and research into disease mechanisms.
