What is a Mantoux Skin Test Test in Chandigarh ?
What is Mantoux Skin Test?
The Mantoux skin test checks whether your immune system reacts to a small amount of tuberculin (PPD) placed under the skin. It does not directly find bacteria. Accurate organism identification is clinically essential, typhoid, dengue, and malaria each require different treatment, and the wrong empirical approach delays recovery.
What does Mantoux Skin Test measure?
Instead, it measures if your body has been exposed to the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. This is important because people can carry latent TB without symptoms. The test helps detect latent infection and supports diagnosis of active TB when used with chest X-rays and symptoms. Doctors use it to screen healthcare workers, close contacts of TB cases, people about to start immune-suppressing medicines, and travelers from high-risk areas.
What symptoms suggest Mantoux Skin Test may be needed?
Mantoux Skin Test is generally requested as part of a infection assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports sudden fever (above 38.5°C), body aches and chills, persistent headache, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, skin rash, joint pain, and extreme fatigue. Whether Mantoux Skin Test specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. In Chandigarh, you can book this test online and check whether home collection reaches Sector 38, Sector 8 or your address.
How is Mantoux Skin Test performed?
A trained professional collects the required sample (swab, sputum, or fluid) at a GetVisit collection centre in Sector 38 or Sector 8, Chandigarh using sterile technique. The sample is barcoded and transported to the NABL lab, and your digital report follows in the GetVisit app once results are authorised.
How accurate is Mantoux Skin Test?
Samples collected in Sector 38 or Sector 8, Chandigarh are processed at NABL-accredited labs using validated methods and internal quality control. Accuracy depends on correct collection technique by a trained professional, which GetVisit's partnered centres follow. Reports are accepted by hospitals, specialists, and insurers across India.
Are there any risks to Mantoux Skin Test?
Risk is minimal. Swab, sputum, or fluid collection by a trained professional in Sector 38 or Sector 8, Chandigarh may cause brief, mild discomfort but no lasting effects. Any specific precaution for your test will be explained at the collection centre.

A nurse injects a small amount of tuberculin just under skin and checks the bump for size after 48-72 hours.

Why Take a Mantoux Skin Test Test in Chandigarh ?
When does a doctor order Mantoux Skin Test?
The Mantoux test is used in tuberculosis screening programs and pre-treatment checks for people starting immunosuppressive therapy. Doctors order it for symptoms like a persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats, or if you were exposed to someone with TB.
Who should get Mantoux Skin Test done in Chandigarh?
Chandigarh's administrative, education and IT workforce, rich regional diet driving high diabetes and cardiovascular prevalence, winter air pollution, and large student population make regular preventive testing worthwhile citywide. Mantoux Skin Test testing is important for symptomatic patients, for confirming recovery, and for household members of a confirmed case. Testing early in Chandigarh's fever season prevents the complications that come from treating the wrong infection.
What conditions can Mantoux Skin Test help diagnose?
It helps find latent TB and supports the workup for active disease. False positives may follow BCG vaccination or other mycobacterial exposure, and immune suppression can give false negatives.
What do Mantoux Skin Test results mean?
Higher or positive results: A positive Mantoux (tuberculin) skin test is the presence of a palpable, raised induration at the injection site 48-72 hours after PPD. Your doctor reads the value against the reference range on your report and your symptoms, and may repeat a borderline result to confirm it.
How often should Mantoux Skin Test be repeated?
Infection tests are ordered when symptoms are present rather than on a fixed schedule. Repeat testing may be needed to confirm recovery, to check clearance after treatment, or if fever recurs. During Chandigarh's monsoon fever season, prompt retesting is advised for any new febrile illness.
What happens after your Mantoux Skin Test results are ready?
Book a follow-up consultation after reviewing your results. GetVisit stores your reports alongside your previous test history, so your doctor sees your full health trend, not just today's snapshot. This longitudinal context significantly improves the clinical value of each repeat test.
