What is a Liver Function Test(LFT) Test in Coimbatore ?
What is Liver Function Test(LFT)?
Liver function tests measure enzymes, bilirubin, and proteins that tell how well the liver works. Common measures include ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, bilirubin, albumin, and total protein. It is one of the most commonly ordered blood tests worldwide and plays a key role in both preventive screening and the investigation of liver disease.
What does Liver Function Test(LFT) measure?
The liver processes nutrients, makes important proteins, removes toxins, and produces bile for digestion. Abnormal results can suggest hepatitis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, bile duct blockage, alcohol or drug-related injury, or hemolysis. Doctors order LFTs for routine health checks, when patients have jaundice, abdominal pain, dark urine, or unexplained fatigue. They also use them to monitor known liver disease and to check safety before surgery or when starting medicines that affect the liver.
What symptoms suggest Liver Function Test(LFT) may be needed?
Liver Function Test(LFT) is generally requested as part of a liver function assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports fatigue or persistent low energy, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark amber or tea-coloured urine, pale or clay-coloured stools, upper right abdominal discomfort, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal swelling, and unexplained weight loss. Whether Liver Function Test(LFT) specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. Sample collection for Coimbatore is available at partner labs, with home collection in many areas including Thudiyalur and Kalapatti; you can confirm availability for your address at booking.
How is Liver Function Test(LFT) performed?
GetVisit home collection in Thudiyalur or Kalapatti, Coimbatore: a certified phlebotomist arrives at your address at your chosen slot (available from 6:00 AM), brings all sterile single-use equipment, draws the sample, and dispatches it to the NABL-accredited lab. Your digital report is delivered to your GetVisit profile once the laboratory releases it, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
How accurate is Liver Function Test(LFT)?
For Liver Function Test(LFT), alcohol within 24 hours and strenuous exercise can temporarily raise liver values, so avoid both before testing. The partner laboratory processes the sample under its own quality-control procedures; where it is NABL-accredited, that accreditation covers the laboratory and its defined scope.
Are there any risks to Liver Function Test(LFT)?
Risks are minimal. Some people notice a small bruise or brief soreness at the needle site, which settles within a day or two. Serious problems such as infection are very rare when sterile, single-use equipment is used, as it is at every GetVisit collection in Thudiyalur and Kalapatti, Coimbatore.

Why Take a Liver Function Test(LFT) Test in Coimbatore ?
When does a doctor order Liver Function Test(LFT)?
The Liver Function Test panel is a common blood profile used when doctors suspect liver disease, during routine health checks, or before starting medicines that can affect the liver. Symptoms like jaundice, abdominal pain, dark urine, or unexplained fatigue often prompt testing.
Who should get Liver Function Test(LFT) done in Coimbatore?
NAFLD is rising among Coimbatore's textile, engineering and IT workforce around Thudiyalur, Kalapatti and Hopes College, where shift patterns and canteen eating are common. NAFLD affects an estimated 25 to 35% of India's urban adults, the majority unaware. Regular liver testing in Coimbatore's residential areas including Thudiyalur and Kalapatti enables lifestyle intervention before irreversible scarring occurs. Patients recovering from hepatitis, those in alcohol recovery, and anyone with persistently unexplained fatigue also benefit from regular liver monitoring.
What conditions can Liver Function Test(LFT) help diagnose?
Very high ALT and AST (10-50× normal) with normal ALP suggests acute hepatocellular injury, viral hepatitis, drug toxicity, or ischaemia. Predominantly elevated ALP and GGT with modest transaminases suggests bile duct obstruction or primary biliary cholangitis. An AST:ALT ratio above 2 suggests alcoholic hepatitis. Persistently low albumin with elevated bilirubin indicates advanced cirrhosis. Abnormal results can come from infections, fatty liver, alcohol or drug damage, blockages, or other illnesses and medications. A family history of liver disease also makes testing important.
What do Liver Function Test(LFT) results mean?
Mildly elevated ALT or AST (2-3× normal): fatty liver, obesity, or medication effect, often reversible. Moderately elevated (3-10×): active viral hepatitis or drug toxicity, requires urgent investigation. Severely elevated (>10×): acute liver injury, a medical emergency. High bilirubin: liver processing failure, bile duct obstruction, or haemolysis. Low albumin: significant loss of liver synthetic function, seen in advanced cirrhosis or malnutrition.
How often should Liver Function Test(LFT) be repeated?
Adults with no liver risk factors and a previously normal result: annually. Patients with NAFLD or treated hepatitis: every 6 months. Patients on hepatotoxic medication: baseline before starting, then at 1 month, 3 months, and every 6 months during treatment. Patients with active liver disease: at intervals specified by their gastroenterologist.
What happens after your Liver Function Test(LFT) results are ready?
Reports arrive digitally and remain in your GetVisit history, so repeat tests can be tracked over months and years. Review anything unexpected with your doctor before changing medication or lifestyle, and use the app to book a follow-up if needed.
