Leptospira IgM Antibody

A positive anti‑Leptospira IgM indicates recent or current infection with Leptospira bacteria. IgM antibodies usually appear within days of symptom onset and suggest recent exposure, though they can persist for weeks to months. Results should be interpreted alongside symptoms and confirmatory testing (e.g., PCR or microscopic agglutination), since false positives/negatives can occur. Prompt medical assessment and treatment are advised.

IgM antibody positive means the immune system has recently produced IgM antibodies against a specific pathogen. IgM is the first antibody type that appears early in infection, so a positive result usually indicates current or recent/acute infection or recent exposure. It can help diagnose early disease but may give false positives; clinicians often order follow-up tests (IgG, repeat testing or PCR) to confirm timing and immunity.
