INTRAVENOUS PYELOGRAM, in Pimpri Chinchwad

An intravenous pyelogram (IVP) is an X‑ray test where contrast dye injected into a vein outlines the kidneys, ureters and bladder. It’s used to detect kidney stones, tumors, anatomical abnormalities, strictures or blockages and to evaluate urinary tract drainage and function. IVP has largely been supplanted by CT urography and ultrasound but may still be used in specific diagnostic situations.

Explain the procedure and obtain informed consent. Check renal function and pregnancy status; ask about allergies (iodine/contrast) and current medications—metformin is often withheld per clinician. Provide bowel preparation (laxative or enema) and fasting from midnight to clear bowel. Establish IV access; review risks and watch for contrast reactions. Encourage hydration afterward to help flush the contrast.

Do you mean IVP as "intravenous pyelogram" (an imaging test) or "intravesical pressure" (bladder pressure)? Each has different normal values—tell me which one and I’ll provide a 50–75 word answer.

An intravenous pyelogram is commonly called an intravenous urogram (IVU) or excretory urography. It’s an X‑ray study where contrast dye is injected intravenously to visualize the kidneys, ureters, and bladder as the dye is filtered and excreted. The test helps detect stones, structural abnormalities, or obstruction in the urinary tract. It’s largely been replaced by CT urography in many settings.

An IVP (intravenous pyelogram) usually takes about 30–60 minutes from start to finish. The radiologist injects contrast, then takes multiple X‑rays over several minutes to visualize kidneys, ureters, and bladder; additional images or observation can extend time. Allow extra time for prep, local paperwork, and post‑procedure monitoring if needed. Expect to be at the facility up to two hours if delays occur.

For an intravenous pyelogram (IVP), the contrast dye is injected into a peripheral vein—most commonly an antecubital vein in the arm—through an intravenous cannula. The dye travels through the bloodstream to the kidneys, ureters and bladder so X‑ray images can be taken. A radiographer or nurse places the IV and administers the injection; local IV access is used for contrast delivery.
