Immunoglobulin E (IgE) indicates allergic sensitization and immune response to parasites. Elevated total IgE suggests atopy (hay fever, asthma, eczema), parasitic infection, or certain immune disorders; normal levels don’t rule out allergy. Less commonly, raised IgE has been described with some non‑Hodgkin lymphomas and occasional solid tumors. Clinical context and further workup are needed to interpret high IgE.

There’s no single IgE cutoff that proves allergy—results must be interpreted with symptoms. Total IgE above ~100–150 IU/mL suggests atopy, and levels >200–300 IU/mL increase the likelihood of allergic disease. For allergen-specific IgE, ≥0.35 kU/L (class 1) is commonly considered positive; higher specific-IgE levels correlate with greater probability of clinical reactivity. Testing should be reviewed and interpreted by a clinician.
