HRCT SCAN PNS CORONAL, AXIAL AND SAGITTAL VIEW, in Navi Mumbai

A PNS axial coronal sagittal CT scan is a computed tomography study of the paranasal sinuses acquired in three planes: axial (top‑down), coronal (front‑back) and sagittal (side). It provides detailed bone and soft‑tissue anatomy to diagnose sinusitis, mucosal thickening, polyps, fractures, congenital variants, and extent of disease for surgical planning. It offers higher resolution than plain X‑rays for sinus evaluation.

Axial (transverse) plane cuts the body horizontally, separating superior (head) and inferior (feet) parts. Sagittal plane divides the body into left and right; the midsagittal (median) plane runs down the midline, while parasagittal planes are off-center. Coronal (frontal) plane slices vertically, separating anterior (front) and posterior (back) portions. These are standard anatomical reference planes.

Axial (transverse) CT produces horizontal slices from head to toe, giving cross-sectional views useful for organ relationships and routine trauma or chest/abdominal imaging. Coronal CT produces vertical slices dividing front and back, showing frontal anatomy and alignment—helpful for sinuses, facial bones, spine and surgical planning. Modern CT often reformats axial data into coronal images for complementary perspectives.

A sagittal view on a CT scan is an imaging plane that slices the body front-to-back into left and right portions. It produces side-profile images — midsagittal shows the exact midline, parasagittal is off-center — useful for evaluating the brain, spine, joints, and organs in anterior–posterior depth, showing relationships between structures from a lateral perspective.

A CT PNS scan’s cost varies by country and facility. Typical ranges: India ₹1,000–₹6,000 for non‑contrast (higher with contrast); UK private £150–£600 (NHS covers when clinically indicated); US $300–$2,500+ depending on facility and insurance. Prices depend on contrast use, hospital vs clinic, reporting fees and city. Confirm exact charges with local imaging centers and your insurer.

Yes. A CT PNS (paranasal sinuses) scan can detect masses or tumors, show size, location and bony destruction, and help stage extent. It’s excellent for bone detail; however MRI is superior for soft‑tissue characterization, intracranial or perineural spread. CT may not definitively distinguish tumor from inflammatory polyps—contrast imaging, MRI and biopsy are often needed for diagnosis.
