HLA-B7 positive means you carry the HLA-B7 variant of a class I human leukocyte antigen. It’s a genetic marker on cell surfaces that helps the immune system distinguish self from non‑self. It’s mainly used for matching organ/tissue transplants and can modestly influence susceptibility to certain conditions or rare drug reactions, but it does not by itself diagnose disease.

HLA-B7 has been linked with several immune‑mediated conditions — notably certain autoimmune diseases (e.g., myasthenia gravis, pemphigus), some inflammatory arthritides and autoimmune liver disorders — as well as altered susceptibility or course of infections (HIV, hepatitis C) and occasional drug hypersensitivity reactions. Associations vary by population and do not by themselves determine disease risk.

Behçet’s disease is strongly associated with the HLA-B*51 allele (often reported as HLA-B51 or B5). Carrying HLA-B*51 increases susceptibility but is neither necessary nor sufficient for disease development; many carriers remain healthy and some patients lack the allele. The association is strongest in populations from the Mediterranean, Middle East and East Asia, reflecting geographic variability.

A positive HLA‑B27 means you carry a specific immune-system gene variant associated with higher risk of certain inflammatory conditions—most notably ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, some uveitis and psoriatic arthritis. It isn’t diagnostic alone: many HLA‑B27 carriers remain healthy. If you have symptoms (chronic back pain, joint inflammation, eye pain) or a family history, further clinical assessment and imaging are recommended.

The HLA-B*07 test detects whether an individual carries the HLA-B*07 allele using DNA-based typing (blood or cheek swab, PCR/sequencing). It’s used for HLA matching in organ and stem‑cell transplantation, research into immune-related disease associations, and sometimes for pharmacogenetic risk assessment. Presence of the allele is not diagnostic by itself; results require specialist interpretation in clinical context.

HLA‑B27 is an autosomal HLA gene variant on chromosome 6 and can be inherited from either parent. HLA alleles are co‑dominantly expressed, so you receive one HLA‑B allele from each parent. If one parent carries HLA‑B27 (usually heterozygous), a child has about a 50% chance of inheriting it; if both parents carry it, the probability is higher.
