HVS positive means a high vaginal swab grew organisms or showed abnormal cells, indicating infection or imbalance in the vagina. Results may identify bacteria, yeast, or parasites and often include microscopy and culture with sensitivity to guide treatment. A positive report suggests clinical assessment and targeted antibiotics, antifungals, or other therapy as advised by a healthcare professional.

A high vaginal swab (HVS) collects fluid from the upper vaginal canal to identify causes of abnormal discharge, itching or bleeding.
