What is a Hepatitis B envelope Antibody (AntiHBe) Test?
The Hepatitis B envelope Antibody (AntiHBe) test looks for antibodies the immune system makes against the hepatitis B "e" antigen. These antibodies often appear when viral replication drops and a person’s infection is becoming less contagious. Doctors use AntiHBe with other hepatitis B blood tests and liver function tests. The test helps show whether an infection is active, resolving, or chronic. It also helps track response to antiviral treatment and judge infectious risk for close contacts. AntiHBe gives information beyond surface antigen or surface antibody alone and can clarify mixed results. Doctors may check it during pregnancy and in people with chronic hepatitis B to guide care and prevent spread. The test requires a blood draw and is included in hepatitis B serology panels.
