What happens if GCT is high in pregnancy?

A high GCT in pregnancy suggests possible gestational diabetes and requires a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test and closer obstetric care. Management may include diet, exercise, blood-glucose monitoring and sometimes metformin or insulin. Untreated hyperglycaemia increases risks of large birth weight, preeclampsia, cesarean delivery and neonatal hypoglycaemia or jaundice, and raises long-term diabetes risk for mother and child.

How does GD affect my baby?

Gestational diabetes can make your baby grow larger than average (macrosomia), increasing risks of birth injuries and cesarean delivery. It also raises chances of preterm birth, neonatal low blood sugar, breathing difficulties, and, if uncontrolled, stillbirth. Long-term, exposed children have higher odds of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Good glucose control and medical monitoring significantly reduce these risks.

Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose), in Ludhiana

Q: What is the GCT glucose test?

The GCT (glucose challenge test) screens for gestational diabetes, usually at 24–28 weeks. You drink a 50 g glucose solution (non‑fasting) and have blood taken one hour later to measure glucose. If the result exceeds the screening threshold (commonly about 140 mg/dL or 7.8 mmol/L), a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test is done to confirm.

Q: What is the 75g oral glucose challenge?

The 75 g oral glucose challenge (OGTT) is a diagnostic test to assess how your body handles sugar. After an overnight fast a baseline blood glucose is measured, you drink a 75 g glucose solution, and blood glucose is rechecked—commonly at 1 and 2 hours. Results help diagnose diabetes or gestational diabetes using established glucose thresholds.

Q: Is 75 grams of glucose normal?

Yes — a 75‑gram oral glucose load is the standard dose used in the adult oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes, not a recommended dietary amount. For adults, fasting plasma glucose <100 mg/dL is normal; 2‑hour post‑load <140 mg/dL is normal, 140–199 mg/dL indicates impaired glucose tolerance, and ≥200 mg/dL indicates diabetes. Discuss results with your clinician.

What is a Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose) Test in Ludhiana ?

What is Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose)?

The Glucose Challenge Test with 75 g measures how your body handles a fixed amount of sugar. It checks blood glucose before and after you drink a sugary solution. India has the world's second-largest absolute diabetes burden, and the majority of cases remain undiagnosed for years before detection, a gap that regular testing directly addresses.

What does 75gm glucose measure?

Glucose is the main fuel for your cells. Insulin from the pancreas helps move glucose into cells. The test shows if blood sugar stays too high. It is commonly used during pregnancy to screen for gestational diabetes.

What symptoms suggest 75gm glucose may be needed?

A doctor may recommend 75gm glucose when a patient reports excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, fatigue, slow-healing wounds or cuts, recurrent skin or urinary tract infections, and tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. In Ludhiana, you can book this test online with home collection available in Pakhowal Road, Kitchlu Nagar, and beyond.

How is 75gm glucose performed?

Collection is a routine blood draw. Using a single-use sterile needle, the phlebotomist takes a small sample from a vein in your arm; GetVisit's team in Pakhowal Road and Kitchlu Nagar, Ludhiana then barcodes and transports it under controlled conditions to the NABL lab.

How accurate is 75gm glucose?

Results are analytically reliable because GetVisit's Ludhiana logistics network maintains proper cold-chain transport from your Pakhowal Road or Kitchlu Nagar collection point to the processing lab, preserving sample integrity. NABL independently audits quality control at regular intervals.

Are there any risks to 75gm glucose?

There is little to worry about. The needle prick lasts a moment and any bruising fades quickly. If you bruise easily or take blood thinners, tell the phlebotomist in Pakhowal Road or Kitchlu Nagar, Ludhiana so they can apply pressure for longer.

Did you know?

For a 75‑gram oral glucose tolerance test in pregnancy, normal thresholds are: fasting <92 mg/dL, 1‑hour <180 mg/dL, and 2‑hour <153 mg/dL.

Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose) Test Preparation in Ludhiana

Fasting instructions:

An overnight fast of 8 to 12 hours is needed. Have your last meal the previous evening and take only water until the sample is collected. Carry a light snack for straight after.

Managing medication:

If you use insulin or diabetes tablets, follow your doctor's advice; for a fasting glucose, most people take the dose after the sample. HbA1c timing does not affect the result.

What to bring along:

Keep your prescription and ID handy, along with your OPD insurance details if applicable. Wear sleeves that roll up easily.

Timing:

An early slot works best, especially for fasting tests. Home collection is available across Salem Tabri, Basant Avenue, and the rest of Ludhiana.

Why Take a Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose) Test in Ludhiana ?

When does a doctor order Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose)?

This test is usually part of prenatal screening or an oral glucose tolerance profile. Your doctor may order it if you are pregnant, have high-risk factors, or show symptoms such as increased thirst or frequent urination.

Who should get 75gm glucose done in Ludhiana?

Punjab consistently reports above-average diabetes prevalence. Ludhiana's calorie-dense diet with limited routine activity across Model Town, BRS Nagar, and Pakhowal Road creates significant metabolic risk from the late 20s, often alongside central obesity. Adults above 30 in Ludhiana benefit from periodic health screening that includes Glucose Challenge Test, GCT-(75gm glucose) as part of a broader preventive panel. Residents of Pakhowal Road, Kitchlu Nagar, and across the city with chronic conditions, those on long-term medication, and individuals with a relevant family history should test at the frequency their specialist recommends.

What conditions can 75gm glucose help diagnose?

It helps diagnose gestational diabetes and impaired glucose control. Abnormal results can come from obesity, poor diet, insulin resistance, certain medications, or underlying diabetes. Family history of diabetes makes this test more important.

What do 75gm glucose results mean?

Post-meal glucose (2 hours after eating) above 140 mg/dL indicates impaired glucose tolerance. Above 200 mg/dL with symptoms is diagnostic of diabetes. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT): 2-hour value below 140 mg/dL is normal, 140-199 mg/dL is pre-diabetes, 200 mg/dL or above is diabetes.

How often should 75gm glucose be repeated?

Adults with a normal result: every 3 years from age 30, or annually if overweight or with a family history. Pre-diabetics: every 6 to 12 months. Diagnosed diabetics: HbA1c every 3 months until controlled, then every 6 months. Testing frequency rises during medication changes or pregnancy.

What happens after your 75gm glucose results are ready?

You will be notified the moment results are ready, usually the same day for routine tests. Open the report in the GetVisit app to see each value beside its reference range, share it with your doctor in a tap, or book a specialist consultation to talk it through.
