What if I fail the GCT test?

If you fail the GCT (screening for gestational diabetes), it’s not a diagnosis — you’ll usually be offered a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). If confirmed, you’ll receive dietary advice, blood glucose monitoring, and closer pregnancy surveillance; some people need medication (metformin or insulin). Work with your care team to create a management plan to reduce risks for you and the baby.

How long does GCT take?

The standard Glucose Challenge Test (screening) takes about one hour and usually doesn't require fasting: you drink a sweet glucose solution and have a blood sample taken before or immediately and again one hour after. If abnormal, a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test is scheduled — either a two-hour (75 g) or three-hour (100 g) test, taking 2–3 hours with multiple blood draws.

What is a GCT 50gm Glucose Test Test in Lucknow ?

What is GCT 50gm Glucose Test?

The GCT 50gm Glucose Test measures how your body handles a 50 gram glucose drink. It checks blood sugar level one hour after you drink the solution. India has the world's second-largest absolute diabetes burden, and the majority of cases remain undiagnosed for years before detection , a gap that regular testing directly addresses.

What does GCT 50gm Glucose Test measure?

This test is important because it screens for gestational diabetes during pregnancy. High blood sugar in pregnancy can affect both mother and baby. Doctors use this test as an initial screen, usually between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. If the result is above the lab cutoff, a longer diagnostic glucose tolerance test is done.

What symptoms suggest GCT 50gm Glucose Test may be needed?

A doctor may recommend GCT 50gm Glucose Test when a patient reports excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, fatigue, slow-healing wounds or cuts, recurrent skin or urinary tract infections, and tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. In Lucknow, you can book this test online with home collection available in Gomti Nagar, Vikas Nagar, and beyond.

How is GCT 50gm Glucose Test performed?

GetVisit home collection in Gomti Nagar or Vikas Nagar, Lucknow: a certified phlebotomist arrives at your address at your chosen slot (available from 6:00 AM), brings all sterile single-use equipment, draws the sample, and dispatches it to the NABL-accredited lab. Your digital report is delivered to your GetVisit profile the same day for most standard blood tests.

How accurate is GCT 50gm Glucose Test?

Every GetVisit sample from Gomti Nagar, Vikas Nagar, and across Lucknow is processed at NABL-accredited labs that use internationally calibrated reference standards, pass external quality assessments, and maintain internal quality control at every shift. Reports are accepted by all major hospital networks, specialists, and insurance providers in India.

Are there any risks to GCT 50gm Glucose Test?

There are no significant risks beyond those of a standard blood draw. For your appointment in Gomti Nagar or Vikas Nagar, Lucknow, drink 2 to 3 glasses of water beforehand and stay seated for 2 to 3 minutes afterwards, as vasovagal fainting (rare) is more likely if you are fasting, anxious, or dehydrated. Tell the phlebotomist if you have fainted during previous draws.

What is the GCT 50 gm glucose test?

The 50‑gram glucose challenge test (GCT) is a screening for gestational diabetes, typically offered at 24–28 weeks. You drink a 50 g glucose solution (no fasting required) and have blood drawn one hour later to measure plasma glucose. If the result exceeds the screening cutoff (commonly 130–140 mg/dL), you are referred for a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test.

What is a normal 50g GCT level?

A normal 50 g glucose challenge test (1-hour) is a plasma glucose level below 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L). Some clinics use a lower cutoff (130 mg/dL or 7.2 mmol/L) to increase sensitivity; values above the chosen cutoff prompt a diagnostic 3-hour oral glucose tolerance test to confirm gestational diabetes. Interpretation may vary by practice.

What is a normal GCT level in pregnancy?

A normal one‑hour 50 g Glucose Challenge Test (GCT) in pregnancy is a blood glucose below 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L). Values at or above 140 mg/dL typically prompt a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) to confirm gestational diabetes; some clinics use a lower 130 mg/dL cutoff for greater sensitivity. Fasting and OGTT thresholds differ.

What is a GCT test used for?

The glucose challenge test (GCT) is a screening tool during pregnancy to detect gestational diabetes. Typically done between 24–28 weeks, it involves drinking a glucose solution and measuring blood sugar one hour later. An elevated result prompts a diagnostic oral glucose tolerance test. Early detection helps guide dietary changes, monitoring, or treatment to reduce risks for mother and baby.

Can menstruation affect GCT 50gm Glucose Test results?

Some tests, such as iron studies and certain hormone panels, can be influenced by your menstrual cycle. If you are on your period, mention it so your doctor can judge whether timing matters for GCT 50gm Glucose Test.

Can I take my diabetes medication before GCT 50gm Glucose Test?

If you take insulin or diabetes tablets and are fasting for GCT 50gm Glucose Test, ask your doctor whether to delay the dose until after the sample is collected, to avoid a low-sugar episode.
