EMG and NCV Both Upper Limbs, in Pimpri Chinchwad

The NCV both upper limbs test (nerve conduction velocity) measures how fast and how strongly electrical signals travel along the peripheral nerves of both arms. Surface electrodes deliver mild pulses to motor and sensory nerves to detect slowed conduction or reduced amplitudes, helping diagnose carpal tunnel, ulnar neuropathy, or peripheral neuropathy. It takes ~30–60 minutes, causes brief discomfort, and has minimal risk.

Electromyography (EMG) measures electrical activity in muscles to detect muscle disorders, denervation, and neuromuscular junction problems. Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) tests measure the speed and strength of electrical signals along peripheral nerves to identify nerve damage, compression, demyelination, or axonal loss. Together they distinguish nerve versus muscle causes, localize lesions, and help assess severity and prognosis.

Cost of an EMG/NCV varies by country and setting. Under public health systems it’s often covered; privately it typically ranges: India about ₹800–3,500; UK private clinics £200–£500; US outpatient/private systems roughly $200–$1,500 (more for complex studies or hospital billing). Always confirm with the specific clinic or insurer for exact pricing and any additional fees.

An EMG/NCV can cause discomfort but is usually tolerable. Nerve conduction studies give brief electric shocks or tingling; the EMG uses thin needles that can produce sharp pokes, cramping, or aching during testing and mild soreness afterward for a day or two. Pain varies by person and test area; clinicians take steps to minimize discomfort and the procedure is brief and diagnostic.

A positive EMG indicates abnormal electrical activity in muscles, confirming nerve or muscle dysfunction. It may show spontaneous activity (fibrillations, positive sharp waves) suggesting denervation, and altered motor unit potentials consistent with neuropathic (large, long-duration, polyphasic) or myopathic (small, short-duration) changes. Results help localize lesions, assess severity and chronicity, and guide further testing and treatment.

An NCV (nerve conduction) test typically costs about $200–$1,500 in the United States (depending on facility and whether combined with EMG). In the UK it's free on the NHS but private clinics charge roughly £150–£500. In India prices commonly range ₹500–₹3,000. Insurance often covers part or all of the cost; final price varies by location, provider, and included services.
