DGP IgG Antibody

A positive deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) IgG indicates your immune system has produced antibodies to gluten. It suggests possible celiac disease—especially if IgA deficiency is present—or less commonly non‑celiac gluten sensitivity. It’s not definitive: results need correlation with symptoms, total IgA, tTG IgA, HLA typing and possibly intestinal biopsy. Do not start a gluten‑free diet before full evaluation; consult a specialist.

A DGP test measures blood antibodies to deamidated gliadin peptides, fragments of gluten targeted by the immune system. Positive DGP IgA or IgG suggests celiac disease or gluten sensitivity and is used alongside tissue transglutaminase (tTG) testing—especially in young children, people on a low‑gluten diet, or those with IgA deficiency. Results are combined with clinical assessment and, if needed, biopsy.

The DGP test detects antibodies to deamidated gliadin peptides (IgA and/or IgG) in blood to screen for celiac disease. It’s more specific than older gliadin tests and is useful in children and in IgA-deficient patients. A positive DGP suggests a gluten-triggered immune response, but diagnosis usually requires confirming tTG-IgA testing and an intestinal biopsy; remain on a gluten-containing diet for accuracy.

A positive IgG antibody result means your immune system has previously encountered the specific pathogen or vaccine and produced longer‑lasting antibodies. It typically appears weeks after exposure and suggests past infection or immunity memory, but it doesn’t confirm current active infection or guarantee full protection. Clinical context, timing, and additional tests determine its significance; consult a clinician for interpretation.

Elevated IgG is classically seen with plasma‑cell disorders—especially IgG‑type multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytoma and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). Certain B‑cell malignancies, including some non‑Hodgkin lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, can also produce monoclonal IgG. Polyclonal IgG rises are more often from infection or autoimmune disease than from solid tumors.

Early warning signs of celiac disease include persistent digestive symptoms (diarrhea, constipation, bloating, abdominal pain), unexplained weight loss or poor growth in children, chronic fatigue and iron-deficiency anemia, mouth ulcers, and unexplained nutrient deficiencies. Some people develop an itchy, blistering skin rash (dermatitis herpetiformis), bone or joint pain, and neurological symptoms like numbness or brain fog.
