What is a dexamethasone suppression test Test in Ranchi ?
What is dexamethasone suppression test?
The dexamethasone suppression test checks how your body controls cortisol, a stress hormone. It measures whether cortisol falls after taking a small dose of dexamethasone. It is particularly important for people with diabetes or hypertension, the two leading causes of chronic kidney disease in India, responsible for over 60% of cases requiring dialysis.
What does dexamethasone suppression test measure?
Cortisol helps regulate blood pressure, blood sugar, and inflammation. Too much cortisol can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, weak bones, and mood changes. Doctors use this test to find causes of high cortisol, such as Cushing syndrome. It can help tell whether the problem comes from the pituitary, the adrenal glands, or elsewhere.
What symptoms suggest dexamethasone suppression test may be needed?
dexamethasone suppression test is generally requested as part of a kidney function assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports ankle or leg swelling, reduced urine output, frothy or foamy urine, persistent fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, persistent itching, muscle cramps, and high blood pressure. Whether dexamethasone suppression test specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. Sample collection for Ranchi is available at partner labs, with home collection in many areas including Ratu Road and Harmu; you can confirm availability for your address at booking.
How is dexamethasone suppression test performed?
A quick venous blood sample is all that is needed. At your chosen slot in Ratu Road or Harmu, Ranchi, the phlebotomist collects the sample with sterile equipment; most people feel only a momentary prick and there is no downtime afterwards.
How accurate is dexamethasone suppression test?
For dexamethasone suppression test, a very high-protein meal or vigorous exercise shortly before testing can nudge kidney markers, so keep to your usual routine. The partner laboratory processes the sample under its own quality-control procedures; where it is NABL-accredited, that accreditation covers the laboratory and its defined scope.
Are there any risks to dexamethasone suppression test?
Beyond a brief pinch, dexamethasone suppression test carries almost no risk. Keep the arm relaxed during the draw, press gently on the site afterwards, and avoid heavy lifting with that arm for about an hour.
Did you know?
Take dexamethasone exactly as your clinician instructs, commonly 1 mg orally at 23:00 the night before.

Why Take a dexamethasone suppression test Test in Ranchi ?
When does a doctor order dexamethasone suppression test?
dexamethasone suppression test is part of an endocrine evaluation for suspected Cushing syndrome and related disorders. Doctors order it when patients have unexplained weight gain, high blood pressure, easy bruising, muscle weakness, or mood changes.
Who should get dexamethasone suppression test done in Ranchi?
Rising diabetes and hypertension prevalence translate into elevated chronic kidney-disease risk, and warm, dry pre-monsoon months add dehydration-related stone risk across Ratu Road, Harmu and Tupudana. Kidney testing matters most for people with diabetes or high blood pressure, a family history of kidney disease, recurrent kidney stones, or long-term use of painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac. In Ranchi, residents of Ratu Road, Harmu, and areas with variable water quality or high summer heat face added dehydration-related renal stress, making annual checks worthwhile from age 30.
What conditions can dexamethasone suppression test help diagnose?
It helps distinguish pituitary, adrenal, or ectopic causes of high cortisol. Abnormal results can come from hormone-producing tumors, some medicines, severe stress, or certain illnesses. A family history of endocrine tumors may prompt earlier testing.
What do dexamethasone suppression test results mean?
Results are interpreted in context, not in isolation. GetVisit shows your measured value next to the laboratory reference range, and your doctor reads it together with your clinical picture and any earlier results. See the FAQs below for what typical high or low values can mean for this test.
How often should dexamethasone suppression test be repeated?
Adults with no risk factors and a normal result: annually from age 30. Diabetics and hypertensives: at least once a year, often every 6 months. Patients with known kidney disease: at the interval set by their nephrologist. Anyone starting a drug cleared by the kidneys: at baseline and periodically thereafter.
What happens after your dexamethasone suppression test results are ready?
Reports arrive digitally and remain in your GetVisit history, so repeat tests can be tracked over months and years. Review anything unexpected with your doctor before changing medication or lifestyle, and use the app to book a follow-up if needed.
