Cytology -PAP

A cytology test examines cells under a microscope to detect abnormal, precancerous, or cancerous changes. Cervical cytology (Pap test) screens for cervical cancer and HPV‑related changes. Cytology from body fluids or fine‑needle samples can help diagnose infections, inflammation, or malignancy and guide further testing (HPV testing or biopsy) and treatment decisions.

A normal cytology result (often reported as "negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy" or NILM) means no abnormal or pre-cancerous cells were seen in the sample. It indicates the tissue sampled appears healthy, though mild benign changes such as inflammation or infection may be noted. Routine screening is usually recommended at regular intervals; follow-up depends on local screening guidelines.

Self-pay prices commonly range from about $20–$200 in the United States, while in countries with public screening programs it’s often free. In India typical private-lab fees are roughly ₹300–₹800.
