Cultured aerobic bacteria identification and sensitivity is a lab process where bacteria that need oxygen are grown from clinical samples on selective media, identified by colony traits and biochemical or automated tests, and tested for antimicrobial susceptibility. Antibiotic sensitivity testing (disk diffusion or MIC methods) shows which drugs inhibit or kill the organism, guiding effective treatment, infection control, and public health measures.

Identify aerobic bacteria by culturing in oxygenated conditions: incubate plates or broth aerobically and compare growth under anaerobic conditions. Use thioglycollate medium—obligate aerobes grow at the top. Perform catalase and oxidase tests (many aerobes are catalase- and oxidase-positive). Observe colonies’ oxygen dependence and growth patterns to distinguish obligate, facultative and microaerophilic organisms.
