A CT scan of the thigh provides cross-sectional images of bone, muscle, fat and blood vessels, showing fractures, bone lesions, muscle tears, hematomas, abscesses, tumors or foreign bodies. With contrast it highlights blood flow and vascular injury, arterial occlusion or active bleeding. It helps stage infections or malignancies, guide surgical planning and interventions, and assess soft-tissue and peri‑articular involvement.

CT scans can detect many muscle-related issues such as large tears, hematomas, abscesses, masses, calcifications, and atrophy, and are useful for trauma assessment. However, CT is less sensitive than MRI or ultrasound for subtle soft‑tissue abnormalities, early inflammatory or metabolic myopathies, and nerve-related changes.
