A CT scan of the neck provides detailed cross-sectional images of bones, airways, throat, thyroid, salivary glands, muscles, blood vessels, lymph nodes and surrounding soft tissues. It detects fractures, tumors, infections or abscesses, enlarged lymph nodes, vascular abnormalities, and airway or esophageal problems. Intravenous contrast improves visualization of blood vessels, inflammation and abnormal tissue enhancement.
