A lower extremity CT scan visualizes bones, joints and surrounding soft tissues of the hip, thigh, knee, leg and foot. It detects fractures, dislocations, bone tumors, infections and degenerative changes, and defines soft‑tissue masses or abscesses. With intravenous contrast or CT angiography it evaluates arterial disease, stenosis, aneurysm and vascular perfusion; CT venography can assess venous thrombosis when indicated.

A lower-body CT scan images the pelvis, hips, upper thighs and nearby structures, showing bones, joints, muscles and fat, plus pelvic organs (bladder, reproductive organs, rectum), lymph nodes and segments of bowel. With contrast it also visualizes blood vessels. It detects fractures, tumors, abscesses, stones, inflammation, bleeding and vascular disease, helping diagnose injury, infection or cancer.

A CT (computed tomography) scan of the legs and feet uses X-rays and computer processing to create detailed cross‑sectional and 3D images of bones, joints, soft tissues and blood vessels. It helps evaluate fractures, infections, tumors, vascular problems and complex joint issues. Scans are quick and painless; contrast dye may be used and there is a small radiation exposure. Metal must be removed beforehand.

A CT scan of the leg bone (computed tomography) uses rotating X‑rays and computer processing to produce detailed cross‑sectional images of bone and nearby soft tissues. It helps diagnose fractures, bone tumors, infections, degenerative joint disease, and guides surgical planning. The test is quick and noninvasive, may use contrast dye, delivers more radiation than a plain X‑ray, and requires you to tell staff if you are pregnant or allergic to contrast.

MRI is generally better for leg soft-tissue evaluation—muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and bone marrow—without ionizing radiation. CT is superior for assessing bone fractures, complex anatomy, and acute trauma; it’s faster and better with metal or when MRI isn’t possible. Choice depends on the suspected problem: soft-tissue or marrow injury → MRI; bone fracture, acute bleed, or urgent imaging → CT.

A CT scan can show structural causes that may compress or injure nerves—fractures, bone spurs, tumors, or herniated disc—and CT myelography can outline nerve-root impingement. However, CT does not directly image microscopic or functional nerve damage; MRI better visualizes soft tissues and nerves, while EMG/NCS assess nerve function. Clinical examination remains essential.
