Contrast-enhanced CT of the head highlights blood vessels and areas where the blood–brain barrier is disrupted. It helps detect and define brain tumors, abscesses, inflammation, and infected or inflamed meninges; characterizes masses versus cysts; and identifies vascular problems such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and vessel occlusion on CT angiography. It can also assess post‑operative changes and metastases.

A CT (computed tomography) scan for a toddler is a quick X‑ray imaging test that produces cross‑sectional pictures of the head, chest or abdomen to diagnose injury, infection, bleeding or congenital problems. It’s noninvasive but uses ionising radiation; doctors weigh benefits against small radiation risks. After a CT scan with contrast you can usually resume your normal diet and medications unless told otherwise. Drink extra water the rest of the day to help flush the contrast. If you feel nauseous, stick to light, bland meals. Watch for allergic symptoms (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) and contact your provider. If you take metformin, follow your provider’s instructions—temporary withholding may be needed.
