Chitotriosidase Level, in Navi Mumbai

The chitotriosidase test measures serum activity of chitotriosidase, an enzyme released by activated macrophages. It’s used as a biomarker to support diagnosis and monitor treatment response in Gaucher disease and other lysosomal storage disorders, and to track macrophage-driven inflammation. Interpret cautiously: a common CHIT1 gene variant can cause low or absent activity, so results must be correlated with clinical findings and other tests.

Chitotriosidase is an enzyme produced by activated macrophages; its blood levels rise in sarcoidosis and correlate with granuloma burden and disease activity. Measuring chitotriosidase can help assess severity, extrapulmonary involvement and monitor treatment response. Interpretation is limited by lack of disease specificity (elevated in other granulomatous/lysosomal disorders) and by a common genetic variant that reduces enzyme activity in some people.

Chitotriosidase is a human chitinase produced primarily by activated macrophages that degrades chitin and chito-oligosaccharides. It contributes to innate defense against chitin-containing fungi and parasites, modulates inflammation, and participates in tissue remodeling. Clinically, elevated chitotriosidase activity serves as a biomarker for Gaucher disease and other lysosomal storage or inflammatory conditions, reflecting macrophage activation.

Chitotriosidase is a chitinase enzyme produced by activated macrophages; its activity is markedly elevated in Gaucher disease because lipid-laden “Gaucher” macrophages secrete it. Clinically it serves as a sensitive biomarker of disease burden and response to enzyme-replacement or substrate-reduction therapy. Testing helps monitor treatment, but interpretation is limited by a common CHIT1 gene variant that causes absent or reduced activity in some individuals.

Common biomarkers for sarcoidosis include elevated serum angiotensin‑converting enzyme (ACE), increased soluble IL‑2 receptor (sIL‑2R), raised serum lysozyme, and hypercalcemia with elevated 1,25‑dihydroxyvitamin D. Non‑specific inflammation markers (ESR, CRP) may be high. Bronchoalveolar lavage often shows a high CD4/CD8 ratio. These findings support diagnosis and monitoring but are not definitive alone.

An amylase test measures the enzyme amylase in blood or urine to evaluate pancreatic and salivary gland function. It helps diagnose and monitor acute pancreatitis, detect pancreatic injury or duct blockage, and assess unexplained abdominal pain. Elevated amylase suggests acute pancreatic or salivary gland disease; persistently low levels can indicate chronic pancreatic insufficiency.
