What is a CD59 (PNH Marker) Test in Bengaluru ?

What is CD59 (PNH Marker)?

The CD59 (PNH Marker) test measures the presence of the CD59 protein on blood cell surfaces. CD59 helps protect red blood cells and other cells from being destroyed by the complement system. Physical examination provides clues; a test result removes ambiguity and allows targeted, evidence-based management to begin promptly.

What does CD59 (PNH Marker) measure?

Losing CD59 on cells is a key sign of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). PNH can cause dark urine, anemia, fatigue, and dangerous blood clots. Doctors use this test with flow cytometry to find and measure PNH cell clones. It helps confirm diagnosis, guide treatment choices, and monitor response to therapies that block complement activity.

What symptoms suggest CD59 (PNH Marker) may be needed?

A doctor may recommend CD59 (PNH Marker) when a patient reports any symptom your doctor has identified as requiring objective laboratory investigation , including unexplained fatigue, unexplained weight change, persistent pain, fever, or abnormal bleeding. GetVisit makes testing convenient in Bengaluru, with lab slots and home collection in Sarjapur Road, MG Road, and nearby areas.

How is CD59 (PNH Marker) performed?

No needle is involved. For home service in Sarjapur Road or MG Road, Bengaluru, GetVisit delivers a sterile container, you provide a clean mid-stream urine sample, and a certified agent collects and transports it to the NABL lab under proper conditions. Your report appears in the GetVisit app when results are authorised.

How accurate is CD59 (PNH Marker)?

Urine results are reliable when the sample is collected cleanly and transported quickly. GetVisit's Bengaluru network handles prompt, temperature-appropriate transport from Sarjapur Road or MG Road to the NABL lab, and quality control is independently audited by NABL.

Are there any risks to CD59 (PNH Marker)?

There is no medical risk. Providing a urine sample is completely non-invasive, with no needle and no discomfort. The only thing to get right is a clean collection: follow the container instructions to avoid contamination that could affect the result. Home collection in Sarjapur Road or MG Road, Bengaluru is just as safe as visiting a lab.

Did you know?

The test is often done with CD55 and other markers to give a clear picture of cell protection loss.

CD59 (PNH Marker) Test Preparation in Bengaluru

Before you come:

Collect a clean-catch mid-stream sample in the container provided, ideally the first urine of the morning, and hand it in promptly for the most reliable result.

Your medicines:

Unless your physician advises a change, keep taking your usual prescriptions as normal.

Documents and clothing:

Carry your test requisition, a government-issued ID, and any previous reports so results can be compared over time.

Booking your slot:

Morning appointments suit most tests, when the body's markers are most stable. GetVisit home collection in Bengaluru starts at 6:00 AM, including JP Nagar and Banashankari.

Why Take a CD59 (PNH Marker) Test in Bengaluru ?

When does a doctor order CD59 (PNH Marker)?

CD59 (PNH Marker) is usually ordered as part of a PNH flow cytometry panel when doctors suspect abnormal red cell breakdown, dark urine, unexplained anemia, or unusual blood clots. It helps diagnose and monitor paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and guide treatment with complement inhibitors.

Who should get CD59 (PNH Marker) done in Bengaluru?

Bengaluru's 12 million metropolitan population, year-round dengue risk, rising NAFLD and diabetes burden among its massive IT workforce, and rapidly growing outer areas with variable water quality make regular preventive diagnostic testing an important part of health management for residents across every neighbourhood. Those who benefit most from regular CD59 (PNH Marker) testing include adults above 40, people with sedentary lifestyles or BMI above 25, those managing chronic conditions, smokers, and anyone whose previous result was borderline. Early detection through regular testing in Bengaluru is consistently more cost-effective than treating advanced disease.

What conditions can CD59 (PNH Marker) help diagnose?

Abnormal results come from acquired loss of GPI-anchored proteins due to bone marrow cell mutations, and rarely from lab technical issues. A family history of bone marrow disorders may prompt testing.

What do CD59 (PNH Marker) results mean?

Results are interpreted in context, not in isolation. GetVisit shows your measured value next to the laboratory reference range, and your doctor reads it together with your clinical picture and any earlier results. See the FAQs below for what typical high or low values can mean for this test.

How often should CD59 (PNH Marker) be repeated?

For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends , typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.

What happens after CD59 (PNH Marker) results are ready?

Your GetVisit digital report is delivered to your phone as soon as results are authorised. Share it directly with your doctor via the app, or book a consultation with a GetVisit-verified specialist on the same platform. Critical values outside a safe range are flagged by the laboratory for urgent clinical review.

What is CD59 a marker for?plus

CD59 (protectin) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol‑anchored membrane protein that inhibits formation of the membrane attack complex, protecting host cells from complement‑mediated lysis. It is widely expressed on erythrocytes, leukocytes and endothelial cells and is used clinically as a surface marker in flow cytometry. Loss or deficiency of CD59 on red cells is diagnostic for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.

What are the markers for PNH?plus

Key markers for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) include loss or reduction of GPI‑anchored proteins, especially CD55 and CD59, on red cells, granulocytes and monocytes by flow cytometry. Laboratory findings: hemoglobinuria/urinary hemosiderin, elevated LDH, low haptoglobin, indirect hyperbilirubinemia, reticulocytosis, and cytopenias. There is also increased thrombotic risk with raised D‑dimer.

What is the role of CD55 in PNH?plus

CD55 (decay-accelerating factor) protects blood cells from complement by accelerating decay of C3/C5 convertases on cell surfaces. In PNH, GPI-anchor deficiency causes loss of CD55 (and CD59) on red cells, permitting uncontrolled complement activation and membrane attack complex formation. This leads to intravascular hemolysis, hemoglobinuria, and increased risk of thrombosis and other PNH complications.

What is the role of CD55 and CD59?plus

CD55 (decay-accelerating factor) and CD59 (protectin) are membrane proteins that protect host cells from complement-mediated damage. CD55 disrupts C3/C5 convertases to limit opsonization and downstream complement activation. CD59 blocks terminal complement complex assembly by preventing C9 polymerization, stopping membrane attack complex formation. Loss of these proteins (e.g. in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria) causes complement-driven red cell lysis.

Can menstruation affect CD59 (PNH Marker) results?plus

Some tests, such as iron studies and certain hormone panels, can be influenced by your menstrual cycle. If you are on your period, mention it so your doctor can judge whether timing matters for CD59 (PNH Marker).

Can I drink coffee or tea before CD59 (PNH Marker)?plus

If CD59 (PNH Marker) needs fasting, avoid tea and coffee (even without sugar) during the fasting window, as they can affect some results; plain water is fine. If no fasting is required, your usual drinks are okay.
