Beta HCG-Titre

Beta hCG titer is the measured concentration of the pregnancy hormone beta–human chorionic gonadotropin in blood or urine. Reported in mIU/mL, it confirms pregnancy, estimates gestational age early, and monitors viability or complications (ectopic, miscarriage, molar pregnancy). Serial titers and expected doubling times help assess normal progression or abnormal outcomes. It's also used to follow treatment of trophoblastic disease and some cancers.

No — a single quantitative beta-hCG test does not reliably confirm fetal sex. hCG levels vary widely and any small average differences between male and female pregnancies overlap too much to be diagnostic. Accurate determination comes from fetal anatomy ultrasound (generally ~18–20 weeks), noninvasive prenatal testing using cell‑free fetal DNA (from ~10 weeks), or diagnostic genetic tests (CVS/amniocentesis).

No single β-hCG value diagnoses ectopic pregnancy. The transvaginal ultrasound "discriminatory zone" is about 1,500–2,000 mIU/mL: if levels exceed this and no intrauterine sac is seen, ectopic is likely. Serial quantitative β-hCGs are critical—failure to rise appropriately over 48 hours, plateau, or decline suggests ectopic or nonviable pregnancy. Clinical correlation and imaging are required.
