Antimony is used primarily as antimony trioxide in flame retardants for plastics, textiles and electronics; as an alloying element with lead to harden batteries, bearings and solders; in semiconductor devices (infrared detectors, diodes); in glass, ceramics and pigments; and historically in medicine and as antiparasitic drugs for leishmaniasis.
