Anti Soluble Liver Antigen (SLA)

An anti‑SLA test is a blood test that detects antibodies to the soluble liver antigen (SLA), a specific autoantibody linked to autoimmune hepatitis. Measured by ELISA or immunoblot, it helps confirm autoimmune hepatitis—especially when other autoantibodies are absent—and may signal a more severe disease course. Results are interpreted alongside clinical findings and liver function tests.

An anti‑SLA (soluble liver antigen) test detects autoantibodies associated with autoimmune hepatitis. A positive result is highly specific and supports the diagnosis, often accompanying elevated liver enzymes, raised IgG, and a tendency toward more severe disease. A negative result does not exclude autoimmune hepatitis. Results must be interpreted with clinical findings, other autoantibodies (ANA, SMA), liver function tests, and sometimes liver biopsy.
