What is good pastures kidney disease?

Goodpasture's kidney disease (anti‑GBM disease) is a rare autoimmune disorder where antibodies attack the glomerular basement membrane, often affecting lungs too. It causes rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis with blood and protein in urine, reduced kidney function, and sometimes pulmonary hemorrhage. Diagnosis uses anti‑GBM antibody testing and kidney biopsy. Treatment is urgent: plasmapheresis and immunosuppression (steroids, cyclophosphamide).

What organs are affected by anti-GBM antibodies?

Anti-GBM antibodies target basement membranes primarily in the kidneys and lungs. In the kidneys they bind the glomerular basement membrane, causing rapidly progressive (crescentic) glomerulonephritis and acute kidney injury. In the lungs they bind alveolar basement membranes, causing pulmonary capillaritis and potentially life‑threatening hemorrhage. Rarely other basement membranes may be involved, but kidney and lung involvement is characteristic.

What is a Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) Test in Lucknow ?

What is Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody)?

The Anti‑GBM test measures antibodies that target the glomerular basement membrane. This is the thin tissue that helps filter blood in the kidneys and supports air sacs in the lungs. It is particularly important for people with diabetes or hypertension , the two leading causes of chronic kidney disease in India, responsible for over 60% of cases requiring dialysis.

What does Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) measure?

When these antibodies are present, they can cause inflammation and damage. Detecting them is important because it points to Goodpasture’s disease and rapidly progressive kidney inflammation. Doctors order this test when patients have signs like blood in urine, falling kidney function, coughing up blood, or sudden breathlessness. It helps confirm a diagnosis, guides urgent treatments such as steroids, immunosuppression, or plasma exchange, and is used to follow patients over time to see if treatment is working or if the disease returns.

What symptoms suggest Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) may be needed?

A doctor may recommend Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) when a patient reports ankle or leg swelling, reduced urine output, frothy or foamy urine, persistent fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, persistent itching, muscle cramps, and high blood pressure. GetVisit makes testing convenient in Lucknow, with lab slots and home collection in Chinhat, Chowk, and nearby areas.

How is Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) performed?

For Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody), a GetVisit phlebotomist in Chinhat or Chowk, Lucknow applies a soft tourniquet, disinfects the site, and collects a small blood sample into a vacuum tube. The visit takes only a few minutes and you can return to your day straight away.

How accurate is Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody)?

Results are analytically reliable because GetVisit's Lucknow logistics network maintains proper cold-chain transport from your Chinhat or Chowk collection point to the processing lab, preserving sample integrity. NABL independently audits quality control at regular intervals.

Are there any risks to Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody)?

Risks are minimal. Some people notice a small bruise or brief soreness at the needle site, which settles within a day or two. Serious problems such as infection are very rare when sterile, single-use equipment is used, as it is at every GetVisit collection in Chinhat and Chowk, Lucknow.

Documents and clothing:

Have your doctor's referral and photo ID ready; earlier reports for the same test are useful for tracking trends.

Your medicines:

Tell your doctor if you take painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, or ACE inhibitors, as these can nudge kidney readings; a short, safe pause may be advised.

Booking your slot:

An early slot works best, especially for fasting tests. Home collection is available across Chowk, Jankipuram, and the rest of Lucknow.

Why Take a Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) Test in Lucknow ?

When does a doctor order Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody)?

Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) is usually ordered as part of an autoimmune or vasculitis panel when patients have blood in urine, rapidly worsening kidney function, or lung bleeding. Doctors use it to help diagnose Goodpasture’s disease and aggressive glomerulonephritis, and to monitor treatment response.

Who should get Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) done in Lucknow?

Lucknow's hot summers, seasonal water-quality issues, and high diabetes and hypertension rates raise chronic kidney-disease and stone risk, particularly for residents of Alambagh, Rajajipuram, and Chinhat. Annual kidney testing is advisable for adults above 30. Kidney testing matters most for people with diabetes or high blood pressure, a family history of kidney disease, recurrent kidney stones, or long-term use of painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac. In Lucknow, residents of Indira Nagar, Aminabad, and areas with variable water quality or high summer heat face added dehydration-related renal stress, making annual checks worthwhile from age 30.

What conditions can Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) help diagnose?

Abnormal results reflect an autoimmune attack on the kidney or lung membranes and can follow infections or environmental exposures. A family history of autoimmune disease may raise clinical suspicion.

What do Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) results mean?

Higher or positive results: Goodpasture’s disease, caused by anti‑glomerular basement membrane antibodies, is usually ANCA negative. Your doctor reads the value against the reference range on your report and your symptoms, and may repeat a borderline result to confirm it.

How often should Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) be repeated?

Adults with no risk factors and a normal result: annually from age 30. Diabetics and hypertensives: at least once a year, often every 6 months. Patients with known kidney disease: at the interval set by their nephrologist. Anyone starting a drug cleared by the kidneys: at baseline and periodically thereafter.

What happens after Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) results are ready?

You will be notified the moment results are ready, usually the same day for routine tests. Open the report in the GetVisit app to see each value beside its reference range, share it with your doctor in a tap, or book a specialist consultation to talk it through.

What type of antibody is anti-GBM?

Anti‑GBM antibodies are pathogenic IgG autoantibodies (predominantly IgG1 and IgG3) directed against the noncollagenous (NC1) domain of the alpha‑3 chain of type IV collagen in the glomerular basement membrane. They produce linear IgG deposition with complement activation, causing rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and, when lungs are involved, pulmonary hemorrhage (Goodpasture’s disease).

Is anti-GBM the same as goodpasture?

Anti-GBM disease and Goodpasture’s are closely related but not identical. Anti-GBM refers to autoimmune antibodies targeting the glomerular basement membrane causing rapidly progressive kidney injury. Goodpasture’s (syndrome) describes the clinical picture when anti-GBM disease also causes lung hemorrhage. In practice the terms are often used interchangeably, though Goodpasture’s emphasizes combined kidney and lung involvement.

What is the triad of Goodpasture syndrome?

The classic triad of Goodpasture syndrome comprises: 1) pulmonary hemorrhage causing hemoptysis; 2) rapidly progressive (crescentic) glomerulonephritis with hematuria and acute renal failure; and 3) circulating anti–glomerular basement membrane (anti‑GBM) antibodies with linear IgG deposition along alveolar and glomerular basement membranes on immunofluorescence. It is an autoimmune small‑vessel vasculitis; prompt treatment is critical to prevent irreversible organ damage.

Is Goodpastures, ANCA positive?

Goodpasture’s disease, caused by anti‑glomerular basement membrane antibodies, is usually ANCA negative. However, roughly 10–30% of patients have concurrent ANCA, most commonly MPO‑ANCA (p‑ANCA). Dual positivity can affect clinical course and management, so clinicians typically test for both anti‑GBM antibodies and ANCA when anti‑GBM disease is suspected.

Can I exercise before Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody)?

Avoid strenuous exercise for 12 to 24 hours before Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody), since intense activity can temporarily change several blood markers. Light everyday movement is fine.

Do I need a doctor's prescription to book Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody)?

You can book Anti Gbm (Good pasture's antibody) on GetVisit with or without a prescription, though a doctor's advice helps with interpreting the result. Cashless OPD may require a referral, depending on your insurer.
