ANTI A TITRE TEST

The anti‑A titer blood test measures the concentration of antibodies (anti‑A) in a person’s serum that react against A blood group antigens. It’s performed by serial dilutions to identify the highest dilution that still causes agglutination. Results guide transfusion compatibility, assess risk of hemolytic reactions or newborn hemolytic disease, and monitor ABO‑incompatible transplantation or desensitization therapies.

In India, an individual antibody titer test typically costs about ₹400–₹2,500. Routine IgG/IgM titers (measles, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, COVID) commonly range ₹400–₹1,500; extended panels or specialized assays may reach ₹2,000–₹2,500. Final price depends on test type, lab, city, sample collection and any package discounts—confirm with the chosen laboratory.

An anti‑A titre measures the strength of anti‑A antibodies by serially diluting patient plasma, mixing each dilution with known A‑type red cells, incubating (room temperature and/or 37°C), centrifuging and reading for agglutination. The highest dilution that still causes visible agglutination is reported as the titre (reciprocal of dilution). It’s used in transfusion, ABO‑incompatible transplant and pregnancy risk assessment.

An ANA titer test measures antinuclear antibodies in the blood to help detect autoimmune conditions such as systemic lupus and scleroderma. Results are given as a dilution (e.g., 1:40, 1:160); higher titers indicate more antibodies. The common method is indirect immunofluorescence. A positive ANA supports but does not confirm diagnosis—clinical correlation and further specific antibody tests are usually required.

A positive titer means antibodies to the specific germ are present, indicating prior infection or an immune response from vaccination. It usually suggests some level of protection, but the degree and duration vary by disease and test. The blood test for TB is an interferon‑gamma release assay (IGRA), such as QuantiFERON or T‑SPOT. It measures interferon‑gamma released by T cells exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens, detecting latent TB infection. It requires a single blood draw, gives results in a few days, and is less likely than the skin test to be falsely positive after BCG vaccination. It does not distinguish latent from active disease.
