The ELISA for IgE is a blood test that quantitatively measures total or allergen-specific IgE antibodies. Patient serum is added to antigen- or anti-IgE-coated wells; bound IgE is detected with an enzyme-linked secondary antibody, producing a color change proportional to antibody level. Results help identify allergic sensitization and guide management but must be interpreted with clinical history due to possible false results.
