What is a 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE Test in Prayagraj ?
What is 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE?
The 24-hour urine citrate test measures the amount of citrate your kidneys excrete over a full day. Citrate is a natural substance that helps prevent calcium from forming kidney stones. It is particularly important for people with diabetes or hypertension, the two leading causes of chronic kidney disease in India, responsible for over 60% of cases requiring dialysis.
What does 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE measure?
Low citrate levels raise the risk of calcium-based stones. Doctors order this test when someone has recurrent kidney stones or metabolic conditions that affect acid balance. Results help guide treatment and prevention. Providers may recommend diet changes, citrate supplements, or reviewing medicines based on the result.
What symptoms suggest 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE may be needed?
24 HRS URINE-CITRATE is generally requested as part of a kidney function assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports ankle or leg swelling, reduced urine output, frothy or foamy urine, persistent fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, persistent itching, muscle cramps, and high blood pressure. Whether 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. GetVisit makes testing convenient in Prayagraj, with partner-lab slots and home collection offered in many areas including Naini and Phaphamau.
How is 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE performed?
This test needs a urine sample, not a blood draw. Collect a clean mid-stream sample in the sterile container GetVisit provides, ideally the first morning void, and hand it to the collection agent in Naini or Phaphamau, Prayagraj or drop it at a partnered lab. It is dispatched to the NABL-accredited lab and your digital report follows once the laboratory releases it, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
How accurate is 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE?
Urine results are reliable when the sample is collected cleanly and transported quickly. GetVisit's Prayagraj network handles prompt, temperature-appropriate transport from Naini or Phaphamau to the NABL lab, and quality control is independently audited by NABL.
Are there any risks to 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE?
There is no medical risk. Providing a urine sample is completely non-invasive, with no needle and no discomfort. The only thing to get right is a clean collection: follow the container instructions to avoid contamination that could affect the result. Home collection in Naini or Phaphamau, Prayagraj is just as safe as visiting a lab.

Why Take a 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE Test in Prayagraj ?
When does a doctor order 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE?
24 HRS URINE-CITRATE is usually part of a kidney stone metabolic evaluation panel. Doctors order it for people with recurrent stones, unexplained flank pain, or blood in the urine.
Who should get 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE done in Prayagraj?
Prayagraj's confluence geography and monsoon flooding, waterborne-infection burden, very large student population, widespread nutritional deficiency, and rising diabetes make regular preventive diagnostic testing worthwhile citywide. Kidney testing matters most for people with diabetes or high blood pressure, a family history of kidney disease, recurrent kidney stones, or long-term use of painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac. In Prayagraj, residents of Naini, Phaphamau, and areas with variable water quality or high summer heat face added dehydration-related renal stress, making annual checks worthwhile from age 30.
What conditions can 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE help diagnose?
It helps diagnose low urinary citrate and conditions like renal tubular acidosis that raise stone risk. Abnormal results can come from diet, dehydration, certain medicines, or metabolic disorders. Family history of kidney stones makes this test more important for guiding prevention and treatment.
What do 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE results mean?
Higher or positive results: High citrate in a 24‑hour urine (hypercitraturia) means your citrate excretion is above the laboratory’s reference range. Your doctor reads the value against the reference range on your report and your symptoms, and may repeat a borderline result to confirm it.
How often should 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE be repeated?
Adults with no risk factors and a normal result: annually from age 30. Diabetics and hypertensives: at least once a year, often every 6 months. Patients with known kidney disease: at the interval set by their nephrologist. Anyone starting a drug cleared by the kidneys: at baseline and periodically thereafter.
What happens after your 24 HRS URINE-CITRATE results are ready?
After the lab authorises your results, the report is uploaded to your GetVisit account and saved for future comparison. If anything falls outside the expected range, your doctor can advise whether it needs a repeat test, a lifestyle change, or a specialist opinion.
