"AP leg" is the anteroposterior X‑ray view of the leg. The beam passes front-to-back to image the tibia and fibula, often including the knee and ankle. It helps detect fractures, evaluate bone alignment and joint spaces, and guide treatment or follow-up. Accurate positioning and an additional lateral view improve diagnostic reliability.

On the day, wear loose clothing or a gown and remove jewelry, belts, shoes and other metal objects. Bring your referral and any previous imaging. Inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or have implants. You usually don’t need to fast. You’ll be positioned for images (standing or supine) and must keep still during exposures.
