X Ray Cervico Dorsal Spine Lateral and AP View, in Visit Clinic

A cervical AP and lateral X‑ray are two standard neck radiographs—anteroposterior (front‑to‑back) and side views—used to assess cervical spine alignment, fractures, dislocation, degenerative changes, and prevertebral soft tissues. Indicated after trauma, persistent neck pain, or neurological signs. The quick, low‑dose exam requires minimal preparation and helps determine whether further imaging (CT or MRI) is needed.

AP (anteroposterior) view: X‑ray beam passes from front to back, often used when patients cannot stand; it projects anatomy onto the detector and can magnify the heart and mediastinum. Lateral view: side‑to‑side projection taken perpendicular to the AP, showing depth and spatial relationships; it helps localize lesions and assess vertebrae, pleural effusion, lungs, or joint detail.

An X‑ray LS spine AP and lateral is two plain radiograph views of the lumbosacral spine (anteroposterior and side views) used to evaluate lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and alignment. It detects fractures, degenerative changes, spondylolisthesis and gross abnormalities. The exam is quick, noninvasive and uses low‑dose radiation, but provides limited soft‑tissue and early‑disc detail, so MRI/CT may be needed.

The lateral cervical spine radiograph is the best initial and most informative view. It shows vertebral body alignment, intervertebral disc spaces, facet joints, prevertebral soft tissues and can detect fractures or subluxation from C1 to C7. Additional views—open‑mouth odontoid for C1–C2 and AP or oblique views for neural foramina—are obtained when specific injuries or symptoms require further evaluation.

Identify PA vs AP by patient orientation and radiographic signs: In PA the patient faces the detector—scapulae lie lateral to lungs, clavicles symmetric and angled, cardiac size is true (not magnified), and a "PA" marker may be present. In AP (often portable) scapulae overlap lung fields, clavicles are more horizontal, the heart can appear enlarged from magnification, and images may be labeled "AP" or "portable."

The lateral view of the cervical spine is a side‑view X‑ray projection that visualizes C1–C7 vertebrae, intervertebral disc spaces, facet joints and prevertebral soft tissues. It assesses alignment, vertebral body height, spinal canal and cervical lordosis, and detects fractures, dislocations, degenerative changes or instability. Images can be taken in neutral, flexion and extension positions to evaluate dynamic motion.
