X Ray Scanogram Bilateral Lower Limb Lateral View

An X‑ray scanogram of both lower limbs is a long‑leg radiograph that captures full‑length images from hip to ankle using calibrated, overlapping exposures. It provides precise measurements of femur and tibia lengths, limb alignment and angular deformities, helping diagnose leg‑length discrepancies and plan orthopedic procedures (e.g., joint replacement or corrective osteotomy). It’s quick, noninvasive and uses low‑dose radiation.

A CT scanogram of the bilateral lower limbs is a low-dose CT technique that produces full-length images of both legs to measure limb length, alignment and detect deformities or malunited fractures. Performed with the patient supine, it generates accurate, high-resolution straightened images for preoperative planning, assessment of leg-length discrepancy and angular deformities, with less radiation than multiple conventional radiographs.

A scanogram X‑ray provides precise measurement of bone length—usually of the lower limbs—to detect leg‑length discrepancy, assess growth, and plan or monitor orthopedic procedures (for example limb‑lengthening or joint replacement). Prepare by removing jewelry and clothing over the area and wear a gown. The radiographer positions you (usually supine or standing with legs straight and patellae forward) and places a calibration marker. For a scanogram, three aligned X‑ray exposures (hip, knee, ankle) or a single long‑leg exposure are taken to include bony landmarks. Stay still; measurements are done from the images.

Scanogram costs vary by country and facility. In India private centres typically charge about ₹300–₹2,000. In the UK the test is free through NHS care but private clinics may charge roughly £50–£150. In the United States out-of-pocket prices commonly fall between $100–$500, with final cost affected by facility, complexity and insurance coverage. Always confirm with your imaging centre.

Wear loose, comfortable, plain clothing without metal (zippers, buttons, snaps, underwire bras, jewelry). You may be asked to remove shoes, socks, belts and any metal objects; bring shorts or wear clothing that allows full leg exposure. You might be asked to change into a hospital gown. Tell the radiographer about implants or prostheses beforehand.
