X Ray Right Clavicle AP view & Lateral view

AP (anteroposterior) view: frontal X‑ray beam passes from front to back; often used when patients cannot stand (supine or portable chest), shows overall anatomy and mediastinal contours but can magnify structures. Lateral view: side‑to‑side projection at right angles to AP, separates overlapping structures, shows depth, anterior–posterior alignment, spinal curvatures, and air‑fluid levels. Together they localize fractures, masses and alignment.

Clavicle AP refers to an anteroposterior X‑ray projection of the collarbone. It images the clavicle front-to-back to detect fractures, malalignment, nonunion or displacement. Typically done upright or supine with the beam centered over the clavicle; angled cephalad views can be added to profile medial or lateral ends. It’s a standard initial study for suspected clavicular injury.

Remove clothing and jewelry over the shoulder and apply lead shielding. Position the patient upright (or supine if trauma) with arms at the sides and the affected shoulder against the image receptor. Center the central ray at the mid‑shaft of the clavicle. Obtain an AP view plus an angled view with a 15–30° cephalic tilt to project the clavicle above the ribs. Instruct the patient to suspend respiration during exposure.
