X Ray Left Wrist With Forearm Ap View

A forearm AP (anteroposterior) and lateral X-ray are two standard projections taken to image the radius, ulna and nearby joints. The AP view shows bones front-to-back; the lateral provides a side profile. Together they detect fractures, dislocations, bone alignment issues, growth-plate injuries and foreign bodies. Proper arm positioning for both views ensures accurate diagnosis.

A standard forearm X‑ray often includes the wrist (and elbow) to assess the full bone length and detect associated injuries. Many protocols obtain AP and lateral views that capture the distal radius/ulna and carpus. If you’re concerned about wrist pain or a distal fracture, ask the radiographer or clinician to specifically include the wrist on the imaging.

Position the patient seated or supine with the affected arm extended on the detector. Forearm fully supinated (palm up) so humeral epicondyles are parallel to the image receptor; align shoulder and elbow so the entire forearm (wrist to elbow) lies in one plane. Include wrist and elbow joints. Center the CR perpendicular to the mid‑forearm and collimate to the anatomy of interest.
