The AP (anteroposterior) scapula view is a radiographic projection taken with the patient upright or supine, the affected arm abducted about 90° and hand supinated to move the scapula laterally, with the central ray perpendicular to the scapular body. It demonstrates the scapular body, spine, acromion, coracoid and glenoid to assess fractures, dislocations and other bony pathology.

An oblique x‑ray view is taken with the body or beam rotated between frontal (AP/PA) and lateral positions. This angled projection reduces overlapping structures and better visualizes bones, joints, and spine segments, helping detect fractures, dislocations, or degenerative changes not seen on straight frontal or lateral images. It’s commonly used for spine, ribs, shoulder, and extremity assessments.

AP (anteroposterior) shoulder view is an X-ray taken front-to-back to show the glenohumeral joint, proximal humerus and clavicle. Lateral (scapular Y) view profiles the scapula and helps detect anterior/posterior dislocation. Oblique views — including Grashey (true AP oblique) and axillary projections — visualize joint space, glenoid rim and humeral head alignment to assess fractures, arthritis and instability.

The scapula view is a specific X-ray projection focused on the shoulder blade to assess fractures, dislocation and bone pathology. Imaging commonly includes an AP (true scapula) and a lateral “scapular Y” view. The Y view is obtained with the patient rotated so the coracoid and acromion project with the scapular body as a Y, helping judge glenohumeral alignment and scapular fractures.

It’s commonly used for supine or portable studies when patients can’t stand. A left shoulder AP is an anteroposterior X‑ray of the left shoulder. The X‑ray beam passes front-to-back to image the humeral head, glenoid, acromion, clavicle and joint space. It helps detect fractures, dislocations, arthritis and other bony problems. Different arm rotations or additional views (Y‑view, axillary) may be requested to better visualise alignment and hidden injuries.
