X Ray Left Little Finger AP View and Lateral View

The lateral view of the fingers is an X‑ray projection taken with the affected finger positioned true‑lateral (side‑on) against the detector and the X‑ray beam perpendicular. It profiles the phalanges and joint spaces, showing cortical outlines, fractures, dislocations, subluxations and foreign bodies, and helps assess soft‑tissue swelling. Proper positioning aligns joints and avoids rotational artifact for accurate assessment.

AP (anteroposterior) view means the X‑ray beam passes from the front (anterior) to the back (posterior) of the body, often used when patients cannot stand. The lateral view is taken from the side, with the beam passing through one side to the other, showing a side profile. Together they give two perpendicular planes to localize injuries, assess alignment, and evaluate organs or fractures.

The AP (anteroposterior) view of the finger is an X‑ray projection with the palmar surface down and the beam passing from anterior to posterior. The finger is placed flat on the detector with the central ray perpendicular to the proximal interphalangeal joint. It visualizes phalanges, interphalangeal joints, alignment and bone integrity, and is used to detect fractures, dislocations and joint space abnormalities.

A lateral X‑ray view is a side‑on radiographic projection where the X‑ray beam passes from one side of the body to the other, producing a profile image. It complements frontal views by showing depth, alignment and spatial relationships of bones and soft tissues, useful for spine, chest, skull and joints. The patient stands, sits or lies with the side against the detector to minimize overlap.

A lateral view is a side-to-side radiographic projection showing body structures in profile. It may be left lateral (left side against the image receptor) or right lateral (right side against the receptor). For chest X‑rays, a left lateral view is commonly used to reduce heart magnification. Lateral views reveal anterior–posterior relationships and depth not seen on frontal images.

In anatomical terms, "lateral" fingers are those on the thumb (radial) side of the hand, farther from the body's midline; "medial" fingers lie on the little-finger (ulnar) side, closer to the midline. For example, the thumb is lateral and the little finger is medial when the palms face forward in standard anatomical position. These terms describe location, injuries, or procedures.
