X Ray Left Knee Merchant's View

The Merchant view is an axial, tangential X‑ray of the patellofemoral joint (patella and femoral trochlea) obtained with the knees flexed to project the patella against the trochlear groove. It’s used to evaluate patellar alignment, subluxation or dislocation, articular surface irregularities, fractures, and early degenerative change. Also called a skyline or tangential patellar view, it aids diagnosis of anterior knee problems.

Merchant view refers to the seller’s interface on an e-commerce or payment platform. It displays tools and data for managing listings, inventory, orders, payments, returns, customer messages, shipping and pricing. It also provides dashboards with sales reports, analytics and account settings, enabling merchants to monitor performance, fulfill orders, handle disputes and adjust product details from the seller’s perspective.

A routine left knee X‑ray typically includes three views: anteroposterior (AP), lateral, and a patellar (sunrise/merchant) view. Weight‑bearing AP views may be added to assess joint space for arthritis. Additional oblique or stress views and targeted imaging (for ligaments, menisci, or occult fractures) are ordered if clinically indicated.

The patella Merchant position is an axial (tangential) knee radiograph taken to visualize the patellofemoral joint. The patient lies supine with knees flexed 45°, the image receptor under the knees, and the x‑ray beam angled caudally about 30° toward the patella. It’s used to assess patellar alignment, subluxation, fractures and articular cartilage of the patellar groove.

The Merchant view and sunrise (skyline) view both image the patellofemoral joint axially, but differ in positioning and beam angle. Merchant is a standardized bilateral skyline: patient supine with knees ~40–45° flexed and an angled (≈30°) caudal beam to show patellar alignment. Sunrise is a general/single-knee skyline taken with varied (often greater) flexion and beam orientation tailored to the patient.

The most common knee injury is a ligament sprain, particularly anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. ACL tears often happen with twisting, pivoting, sudden stops or direct blows in sports, causing pain, swelling, instability and limited range of motion. Other frequent knee problems include meniscal tears, patellofemoral (runner’s) knee and overuse tendinopathy, varying by age and activity.
